Cropping Wallpaper

Hi all! I have an Eris and wonder why the heck the phone wants me to crop an image to a square shape when the screen is a portrait (rectangle shape). Anyone know a way around this?

The background image isn't the same aspect ratio as the screen resolution. This accommodates the "shift" you experience when you move to one of the 5 different home screens.

I personally use 1024x768 (XGA) images as they have a 4:3 aspect ratio and it perfectly matches the home screen requirements.
