Root Crud - phone in recover loop

Ok, so I forgot that I had rooted my phone since I don't use any of the 'rooted' features. So I got this text message and thought, why not, and tried to install it.

The phone did a reboot and now I am stuck in the recovery menu. Is there any hope of salvaging this without wiping out everything on the phone? I don't care if I loose the root access or even the ability to root, I'd be happy to just put the VM update on and get back to life.

Anyone have any ideas? The recover screen says "RA-thunderc-v-1.2.0-GNM" if that helps. I'd be most grateful for any advice to get the phone back up and running.

In your recovery, do you still have an ability to flash a ROM?

Sounds like that recovery didn't like the virgin mobile update too well. Did you backup before you tried installing update? If so just wipe and restore your backup. If not sounds like you're gonna have to wipe and flash a rom either stock or custom. I know there were some issues with that update and certain recoveries. I had issues with it and the touch recovery when I was trying to flash a phone back to stock.
