I just wanted to voice my concern about the current placement of the Android Forums Community section. And I disagree with the move for two reasons.

The first reason is that it adds unnecessary tedium having to navigate through the entire device forums section to the near bottom of the main webpage. And everyone uses the site differently as well. Some may not want to utilize the Favorites bar as much as others would in order to avoid clutter from excessive unread topics, for example.

And my second reason for disagreeing with the move is that it makes it more difficult for new members who want to be heard and feel welcomed here to navigate to the Introductions and the Lounge forums, located in the Android Forums Community section.

Now some people may just want to breeze through here and only get the information they need about their devices and move on, and that's understandable. But what about the others that may want to remain to help build a stronger community? I believe that's equally as important as finding the knowledge you would need about your devices.

I really hope the admins would reconsider their recent decision about the placement of the Android Forums Community section, because I feel that it causes more harm than good.

Totally agree. I do understand that this is an Android forum, and the owner wants to keep Android front and center, but the new format has nearly killed the Lounge sections. I'm positive that the numbers will back that up if you don't count the threads started by the Phandroid spam bot. (another new thing I'm not thrilled about)

Again, I do understand the reasoning behind the decision, but most of the people who use the lounge are the regulars who come back to the site nearly every day. I think there is value in that. We still see the ads that pay the bills. I find myself using the site less because there is much less activity in the Lounge sections. I hope management will reconsider.

Very much agreed. I think one thing we've noticed quite often in the past is how many new users simply stumble into one of the watering holes looking for support since it's at the top. There's a lot of regulars who are super friendly (like the ones above ;)) and willing to help them out with their problem even though it's not the right "place". The Lounge is filled with the friendliest and some of the highest posting members who are happy to point anyone in the right direction be it their device forum or wherever the answer may be. :)

I posted the following on the other thread:

This was a Rob call and, I see both sides.

Fortunately, we're not terribly far off a launch of a new fun site that will have all these woes resolved

One thing to remember though - we're all creatures of habit, and we as members are used to it being where it is. More of an adjustment for us than anything.. while we experiment with SEO and guest-retention by putting the most important and relevant content up top.

..but I will add here - I do agree it feels crazy to have to scroll past a billion devices to get there. On the other hand, "favorite" the forum and it will be there on the left with no need to scroll at all.

But yeah. I do expect this poll to pretty much remain 100% for the top - as all voters would be members who are used to that, and therefore likely prefer it. But again, soon we'll have all this solved. We're only going to show a few devices with a 'view more' to hopefully cut back on scrolling :)

Phases, I have another suggestion for the devices forums on the main webpage. You could make those sections alone scrollable within smaller boxes in order to take up less space. I think that would be a good compromise.

In the interim, if you're browsing from your pc; simply hit the "end" key on your keyboard to jump right to the bottom of the page. Likewise, the inverse of pressing the "home" key will take you back to the top.
