Root Custom Kernel?

Hi everyone

I was wondering if someone could explain the role of a custom kernel vs stock in the phone. I am still green on the pros and cons of having one, since the source code being released has them popping up more. Anyone who currently has one on their EVOLTE having good experiences?

The kernel tell the actual hardware what to do. It's like your brain stem, controlling all the involuntary functions, like processor speed and voltage.

Some are tweaked to give better performance, some give you better battery life.

As of yet there are few custom kernels out there. The only one that comes to mind forces both cores to be active when the screen is on. I tried it, but the performance gain wasn't with the battery for me (V6 Supercharger did the trick though).

As always, do a nandroid backup before flashing.

There is freezas modified stock kernel, Chad Goodmans anthrax kernel, and ca1ne has a kernel in testing as well. I've used them all so far

In my opinion custom kernels are almost always better than the stock ones. Better performance while also getting better battery life kicks butt!
