Root Custom kernels on the x :)

Sorry I'm new to all this stuff, but what exactly is a kernel? Also if we are able to run CM7 on the X what will be the advantages of it over roms like Apex and Liberty?

From my understanding, they can customize the roms a great deal more being able to load custom kernels. All the current roms have are optimized versions of moto's stock kernel.

The way I understand it, the kernel is the middleman between the Operating System and the hardware. All requests for system resources and hardware has to go through the kernel. Therefore, customizing the kernel could have great benefits and enable features that aren't possible with an OEM or stock kernel.

Now having experience with an X and iphone 4, no the X does not beat it without major tweaking. I have been 60% battery life with 4 hours use, 24 hours standby and 2 hours talk time with the 4. The X can't even come close to that stock.

and you care about stock why? I get about 40% life left after a 9 h hour shift at work , I use it a ton and its very bad reception so basically worst case scenario . I couldnt do that on my old iphone 3gs becauseyou can barely tweak it and your suck with a stock battery.

I have a IP4 and a X, you aren't going to win this one. As much as I love my X, my IP4 runs circles around it's battery, even with my 1800 maHr battery. Remember, the 4 destroys the 3GS in battery performance. Much has changed.

A device loaded with Motoblur stock?
My Apex infused X can beat an ip4.
How do I know? ask my friend John who's phone lasted longer today

I concur. Even with the 4 having a ton of apps running in the background, the battery life just is better. Doesn't mean the 4 as a whole is better than the X.

I don't know why people feel they need to choose sides and be so it's junk/it's the best thing ever. You should able to realize both phones have good aspects. The 4 has a better display as far as clarity and resolution, it takes better HD video, the OS doesn't glitch out as often as the X, the build quality is better. The X has a larger screen, HDMI out, you can customize it easier, install countless widgets, etc.
 
Obviously. And I bet the number is higher than that. We are currently located in the all things root subforum. So you can assume its a reference to rooted users. Not the general public.
 
Yea, I was talking about people who would be in this section of AF.
stock blur on a rooted X is just wrong
