Custom Notification Alert

Go to Settings -> Sound -> Notifications ringtone
Yes, I went there, but that only has a certain list of tones that you can choose. I was wondering if there was a way to set a tone that I have on my SD card as a notification alert.

search ringtone maker off of the market, that works. also the app ''zedge" has almsot everything you could think of for notifications and ringtones.
to do it manually you have to create a ringtones folder and a notifications folder under media in your sd card.

You can move the sound you want into a folder (make one) for notifications on your SD card.
Media/audio/notifications (new folder).
Same for ringtones, just name it ringtone
Go to the music stock player. Pick a song. Long press on it. It will give you the option to make it a ringtone/notification sound.

I want to THANK ALL OF YOU for your help. With all of your tips I found my tone on my SD card and saw that it was just a simple "Set as notification" button. I was trying to do it from the settings in the droid. I'm so used to the BB Curve, I just have to get used to this phone. Thanks again. Happy to have found this community of Droid 3 users. I'm sure I'll be back again with more questions.
