Custom rom and kernel recommendations

Evening all,

I've just rooted my Samsung GS2 (on O2) and I'm looking for a stable custom rom and kernel that allows me to overclock the CPU. Any suggestions (or advice on what to avoid!)?
 
CheckROM Revolution 2.0 is highly recommended by myself and many others.
As is DlevROM 3. Personally I find CRR2 has the edge, and a major plus is the ease of installing mods, kernels, themes etc via the excellent Kitchen app.

Siyah kernel is as good a choice as any but it has been a little buggy of late with versions being issued at a rate of knots. I've stuck with Siyah v1.8 for a while now and find it very good. When a stable 2.1 is released I will give it a go.
Ninphetimine 2.1.3 is another good one, but the developer has seemed to have put this on the back burner since July, but its still a good choice in my opinion.
 
Have to echo hawker. CheckROM is a nice little Rom just the Kernal choice is a little choosey right now. Siyah 1.8 or 2.1 r3 are the way i'd go right now. Anything newer is still in the guinea pig stage.
 
Ditto the good advice above. Doesn't seem to be used/tried much on here but speed mod kernel also gets rave reviews for battery and performance with check rom revolution. Try a few and see for yourself, that's the beauty of check rom - just pick from the menu and enjoy!
 
Thanks guys. Coming from a Desire it's all a big new world out there! I'll give CheckROM Rev and the Siyah 1.8 kernel a go and we'll go from there...
 
One question...

I've been looking at CRR2 on XDA, and i noticed the following: "
REMEMBER THE ROM IS BUILT ON XXKI4 2.3.5 - Do not confuse it with XWKI4 2.3.4 "

My phone has the following:

Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468root@DELL143 #2
Built number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4

Bearing in mind that I'm going to flash the Siyah kernel, am I going to cause problems flashing this ROM or is the above all a bit meaningless?
