Root Custom ROM before in-store activation?

I've got a used Samsung Admire off of craigslist, running the Stock ROM and it's unrooted. If I do clockwork and install a custom ROM, will it affect the in-store activation?

No it shouldn't affect that, but you should activate it first then install cwm etc.

go ahead do it you're fine... I just pulled 1 of the box tonight flash ClockworkMod and put on a custom ROM.. it's not an active phone

activate it online if your metro and use it first then scribble it up after you think about what you want to do to it. sounds safest way to me.
