Has anyone trid this custom rom? Also where can I find out what is the newest software version?

With Nokia it is easy, you connect and it tells you the newest software...

Yeah, I use it and I've no complaints with it. When you say latest, do you mean the absolute latest? Cyanogen offers stable builds every now and then, but they also release experimental nightly builds. You can download them here. (They're called Ace because the Desire HD and the Inspire are both the HTC Ace).

If you're looking for some automation, you can use 'ROM Manager' from the market to download and flash the ROMs, although the nightly builds can't be downloaded without the premium version of the app. The premium version also comes with notifications of new versions.

That's the same one I linked to in my post, yeah :) (Although mine has all the experimental nightly builds too).

What firmware are you running on your phone at the moment? If you're still on 2.2.1 build 1.84.110.3, then you'll need to downgrade to a 2.2 firmware by using a goldcard, yes. But once you've done that, you wont need a goldcard again.

what are nightly builds? So I downgrade to 2.2, (this will root my phone), and then do the upgrade to this one... This is 2.3.3 Right? Unrooted?

Also, I read that you cannot use every micro sd crad to created the gold card?

Nightly builds are ROMs released every day by cyanogen. They're as up to date as possible, but they could potentially be buggy. If you want to be sure everything is stable, pick a stable version.

Downgrading to 2.2 won't root your phone, it's just that you can't root the phone whilst running 2.2.1, so you need to be on 2.2 first. Once you are downgraded, you need to run the visionary tool to get root and then get radio S-Off. That will allow you to use ROM manager to install cyanogen.

Cyanogen is 2.3.3 (or 2.3.4 in the nightly builds) yes, but it's most definitely rooted. All custom ROMs come rooted.

which post are you referring to?

Some people do seem to find sdcards that they can't get to work. However, there doesn't seem to be any way to predict this - you'll just have to try all the cards you have.

I saw a "how to" on downgrading, which involved using a 2gb kingston sd card as a goldcard, so I bought one to use as my goldcard - didn't seem to work, so I took the 8gb Skandisk SD card that came with the phone out, copied everything in to a file on my desktop, formatted it and used it to create a golcard. Once the downgrade/root was all done, I took the goldcard out, formatted it again and copied the files from the SD card folder back on to the SD card.

Just goes to show that not all SD cards can be used as goldcards!

Yeah... with my previous HTC phone, people usually tried the sdcard that came with the phone first and had varying amounts of luck. You would imagine they'd all be the same, but for whatever reason that wasn't the case.

can you explain "you need to run the visionary tool to get root and then get radio S-Off." Thanks a lot

Once you have a goldcard for your phone and you have downgraded to 1.32 (How to- Root HTC DESIRE HD – included Downgrade from 1.72.405.3 to 1.32 - iGyaan.in|iGyaan.in), then you need to download Visionary - should be able to find this by searching visionary on google (the link I gave here is video 1 of 3... I think they guy goes on to show how to get visionary and then also how to get radio S-Off (again, by downloading a program)).
