Custom ROM slow down 3G/mobile data speed?

Hi,

I live in the Uk and have the S2 on vodafone. I have my S2 rooted and have installed Villainrom 2.5. Since then, i dont know if its just me being in areas of poor coverage, but my 3G/mobile data/internet has been so slow! I am using the opera browser and sometimes i just have to give up on the page loading. Not happy...

Could this be anything to do with a custom ROM? Can they affect mobile data speeds?

its probably your coverage at the time
it may be worth checking which modem (baseband) version your running too.

That is quite old to be honest.
What is your actual firmware version out of curiosty?
(about phone>build number)

Back onto the subject of modems, take your pick

certain modems will perform better on certain regions and network providers, so its a bit of tiral and error.

I'm on Orange UK, and currently using KI4

I dont know what firmware Villain 2.5 is based on (K??)
Not that it matters too much anyway.

Give those modems a go that I linked above and see if any performs better for you

not sure villain hasnt updated in quite some time. 3.0 was the latest still in beta for a few months.
