Root Custom ROM Transition

So Im going from one version of CM7 to the MTDEV vesion, having troubles...

I did a Nandroid back up on recovery mode and an additional titanium back up.

I then proceeded to factory reset the phone and delete cache and all that good stuff.

I then chose the zip files I wanted and installed them. MTDEV CM7 and the gapps.

everything worked perfect and I really like the new ROM. The only thing is i lost all of my photos, videos, everything. So i restored it back to the old CM7 version and everything is back.

Am I missing something here?

I made a copy of my SD card and stored it on my computer and deleted everything on the sd card now. except titanium backup and cmw, recovery, and the things i needed for the new ROM, since it would not let me do a backup because of low free space.

How do I keep the new Custom ROM AND have all my photos, apps, and everything else?

As far as apps, either your Ti backup, or your Google account sync is fine.

Don't know about your photos. a factory wipe does not delete your photos and music and crap from your SD card. They should all be there. Maybe you just needed another media scan for your app to find and load them all.

since the OP mention the use of TI backup maybe on restore evrything got restore including the system data that is making it act up? i never seen pictures and stuff get erase when doing formatting and clearing caches but yeah have seen that you need to manually add the folder to the gallery/library ......maybe try a file explorer after flashing even though pictures dont show up on gallery see if there still on the SD CARD threw a file explorer

If you flashed a fresh rom and gapps then the pics should've been restored when you signed into your google account

wouldnt that only work if you sync your pics with google(isnt called picaso or w.e) i myself like to remain as ANONYMOUS as possible :D so i never syncs stuff unless is necessary so my pics arent sync with google but never had anything erase when switching from ROM to ROM thats odd

Could it be that his pictures/videos were taken with an app other than the one that came factory with the phone and the pictures/videos are stored in a different folder? I have ran into this before.

i never done it to my phone :D so i wouldnt know but it you were to format/wipe your files/sdcard when you flash a new ROM and then boot and see that you dont have your files then flash from a back up will that get all your files back that were erase/wiped ? doesnt the back up only back up the ROM and settings and stuff not SDCARD content?
