Root Custom ROMs and activation

So I recently took the leap to root my m8 and try some ROMs. Also I haven't been here in quite awhile. But anyway. I'm on CM11 and was having camera issues. Right from installing, my camera will make my phone freeze to the point of rebooting. (If any app has access). I then decided on trying some other ROMs as my camera is a must but found that I have no service with others. My phone won't activate and I can't get it to activate. I like CM but I like my camera more. If anyone has any ideas to resolve either issue, it would be greatly appreciated.
In this whole process, I've flashed my phone 10 different times since yesterday. Got myself in a bootloop which luckily the RUU file was on my SD card so I just removed it and reflashed CM.
And just to add, with a day of running CM my battery life turned to $#!7. Where I could go a whole day (15 hours), I made it 8 hours.

I've tried everything listed on xda to no avail
What recovery (and version) did you install?

And if the wrong recovery isn't a problem - if you flash enough, you can screw up service.

I'll have to hunt down the procedure to fix it.

What carrier are you on?

Did you make a nandroid backup before flashing away after rooting?

What RUU file did you use, why, and are you s-off?

In the bootloader it says s-on. I found the latest non HK ruu on xda thinking it might be a permanent software problem. Funny thing though, I was able to come back to cm11 and I have service. I'm on sprint and made sure to only use sprint ROMs. I can't remember what version of twrp I'm using at the moment. And I did make a backup but I can't seem to revert back.
Edit
I'm on v 2.7.1 that you have posted here.

The latest Sprint RUU an exe that you can get directly from HTC.

No one here has advised the use of TWRP 2.7.1 in a great many months, all the threads that are current say to get the latest from TWRP, and right now that's this one -

Fastboot flash that from your pc or download to your phone and install with Flashify from the Play Store.

You may find it able to restore the backup that the old version couldn't.

I'm sorry, I'm not going to be of further help.

This takes time and effort and when I ask an important question like which RUU, I don't expect to have to pull teeth or hear some vague description like "the latest from XDA" when you can't find the latest version of TWRP - I expect the courtesy of a straight, explicit answer.

It's nothing personal - I just don't have time for games.

I wish you all the best with your phone.
