Root Custom ROMs and GPS

I love using my Droid when geocaching. The combination of c:geo and Locus makes the activity paperless and painless. Of course, the critical need to caching is an accurate GPS signal.

I was doing pretty well using the latest Bugless release the past few weeks. Yesterday I switched to Elite's newest ROM, and I noticed that my GPS accuracy is now off by about 10 ft. Not a huge amount, but it can make a big difference if the cache is alongside a river! I'm not sure if this is coincidence or not.

Can anyone tell me if choice of ROM affects the GPS signal, or how it is used?

I don't think the ROM affects the gps accuracy, but you might get the free app 'gps status'. I use it to help quickly get the satellites to lock. There is also a calibration technique where you get into a good gps signal location and rotate the phone 360 degrees along each axis. That improved my accuracy to just a few feet.

+1 ^^^ 'gps status' app. I've had it since the very beginning and love it, though sometimes what I have read makes me believe that your choice of rom _might_ affect gps accuracy. But those problems could well have been posted by those who don't know how good "Gps Status" is, lol.
