Root Custom ROMs \ Custom Kernels

Ok, so I've had my Dinc2 for a few months now. I've since rooted the phone and have been running a ROM called Incredible 2 HD. It consists of Android 2.3.5 and HTC Sense 3.5. Simply put, I love it.

I'm trying to learn whatever I can about my phone and how I can make it work just the way I want it to. I guess my question would be is, what is a custom kernel and what can it do for me? So if anyone would be so kind as to explain or point me in the right direction, I would much greatly appreciate it.

well, the rom you are running comes with a custom kernal. a custom kernal basically lets you have complete control of your battery use and speed.

If you make your phone faster, it will use more battery, but if you make it slower, it will use less. there are also governors, which try to make your phone perform well but still use minimal battery.

I downloaded an app called cpu master free, and its very easy to use. higher numbers=faster speed. Try it out and see what you think.
