Help Custom text notifications for contacts

On my old(way old) phone I was able to customize contacts with their own ringtones for calls, texts, etc. Now on the Photon I'm finding where I can set a ring to a contact for calls and I can set the notification I want for text messages in general but I'm not finding anywhere I can assign a contact their own notification for text messages. Is there a way or anyone point me to an app that definitely supports this function?
Thanks!
Becky

Try a different sms app. I use go sms pro(free in google play), you can have a different notification for whom ever you want and a default for those you choose not to change.

Wow, really? I didn't realize that Go SMS has that function. Man, I think I better start preparing my switch over to Go Launcher Ex+ w/ Go SMS, since Launcher Pro Plus will not be compatible with ICS.

Yeah I use GoSMS too and it does allow you to customize text notifications for each contact including different tones, vibrate patterns, LED colors, notification icon symbols, etc. Its a nice messaging app and its free

I didn't know Launcher Pro won't be available on ICS!!

From my understanding, it just won't be compatible. There were reports on the LPP website that some people who have rooted phones, running ICS roms, had LPP working, but also had more errors or force closes popping up (which won't work for me).

So, it really all depends on fede and if he'll have his "new" version of LPP available, prior to all the ICS updates popping up. I am probably going to start my transition to go launcher this coming weekend. I'm sad to leave LPP behind, but with no updated status from fede on his "revised" LPP, I'll eventually have to switch launchers anyway.

Bummer! I bought ADW launcher when it was on sale in the Market, in case I ever wanted to try something different. I've been playing with it tonight & so far I don't get it!
Thanks for the info. :)

Yeah, the selling point on LPP for me, was the scrollable dock and the widgets, but over the past year I've been able to find apps that serve the same purpose as certain LPP widgets I use...and Go Launcher Ex has the scrollable dock that I like and ability to make it transparent.

I liked Go Launcher, when it was first released, but ultimately most of the widget apps that I found that would be the same/similar to LPP widgets were paid apps (which I didn't want to have to pay for). I'm holding out hope that fede will surprisingly be done with the re-write of LPP before the official ICS is released for the Photon, but I'm not banking on it.

Both Nova and Apex launcher, which are native ICS launchers, have nearly all of Launcher Pro's features and improve on LPPro's performance.

About the only features present in LPPro that are absent from either are icon notification bubbles, native widgets (i.e. widgets that ship with the launcher like LPPro's widgets) and custom dock backgrounds.

Everything else is there (multiple scrolling docks, pinch-to-preview, gestures, etc) and the performance is just as good, if not better.

Both are free, although Nova restricts some features (like additional scroll animations and gestures) to Nova Prime but I support good development so I don't mind paying for it.

Moreover, if you follow the support sites for either launcher, they are either planning to implement the "missing" features or are already testing them for a future release.

Also, you can get equivalent-quality ICS-ready widgets if you're willing to buy the APW widgets of Dr. Appche.

LPPro and Federico's other App, Ubermusic, are basically abandonware at this point. If I recall correctly, either Fede moved to another country or is just too busy to work on his Android projects so its' better not to expect anything.

I loved those apps of his but I won't miss them that much: they were great for Froyo and Gingerbread but once you're on ICS, it's time to move on to other apps.

Thanks! I'll have to check those out too. Do the scrolling docks allow for clear/transparent background behind the icons?

Ooh, and Nova Launcher is made by the developer of Tesla LED (awesome flashlight app) and Widgetlocker! That one might be the front runner, just because I have 2 of the developers apps already, that I use frequently.

The dock on Nova cannot, as yet, be customized; it has the same dock as that on the default ICS launcher -- in short, it's a "clear" default dock, taking the appearance of the bottom portion of your wallpaper. You can customize the icons you place there pretty much any way you want.

As long as it's transparent and you can see the wallpaper behind the icons (and the icons can be customized), that's good enough for me! I didn't check, but is it only compatible with ICS? I was thinking of downloading just to test it out.
