Customizing the X

Newbie
I am moving from an HTC phone to the Droid X. I am considering customizing some of the UI. Does it make sense to use LauncherPro, Beautiful Widgets, and Open Home all at the same time? Or am I going to create a cranky Frankenstein which doesn't work?

I've heard LauncherPro makes the phone run faster and smoother. True?

Do Beautiful Widgets and/or Open Home interfere with that?

Lastly-- do any of you still use Task Killers? I keep hearing back and forth on these, and am not sure where the ball has landed.

Thanks!!!

Most people will refer you to a task killer post on why and why not to use them (don't have the link at the moment). As for LP, people will tell you different things on speed. Some people find it laggy, while others find it smooth as butter. After all my reading, I noticed many users use beautiful widgets with lp.

Task killers are useless in 2.2 or greater, they have been disabled. If you root it you can use autokiller to change the memory parameters if you phone lags. I love lpp and beautiful widgets, make sure if you change launchers that you clear the widgets and shortcuts from the other launchers. I'd try launcher pro, axe and go launcher before you decide.

For a launcher I will say I used LPP for the longest time while one stock and it was great and made my phone better. Once I started getting in to the ROMs LPP started to cause me some problems. I am currently using ADW without any problems and it is fast. It may also be that this is what the developer uses as well and has the ROM set up this way.

Beautiful Widgets is great, had it since the first week I had my phone. Best paid app that I have.

Launcher Pro and Open home are both just different launchers, you can have them on the phone at the same time but they wont work at the same time. you can switch between them fine but the "physics" of android just wont let 2 launchers be working at the same time.

having said that, i would go with launcher Pro. it is VERY smooth and fast for me. super customizable, and you can even make it look like the HTC UI if you want it to. i run it every day with beautiful widgets right on the main screen with no issues.
