Cutting the Cord

I stopped Cable service about 5 years ago. It didn't so much bother me that I was paying per month, but what did bother me is when the stations would advertise that they were showing the exact same thing on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as if they were doing you a favor, that's when I said screw it. "THREE CHANCES TO WATCH LORD OF THE RINGS ON TBS!", more like 1 chance for you *@&!ers to show the same movie 3 times and save money by broadcasting the same show over and over again. I actually remember when broadcast TV showed what we see now on basic cable.

What I've resorted to doing now is just using my PS3. It has a bluray player, will play movies from an SD card, has Netflix, will let me view movies from my phone, can view streaming video online, oh and it also plays PS3 games.

Batter up! :)

(Unless getting the games over the air in the city is a problem for you - I know in some places, reception can be an issue.)

Roku and a couple of the others have MLB.TV too. The only issue may be blackout restrictions for some local games. Not sure if MLB does this, I know the NHL does it. Still, you could add PlayOn to Roku and get the games that way.

I keep getting closer and closer to cutting my feed because I'm just sick and tired of the constant pop-up advertising.

It's incessant, invasive, immoral, fattening and I can't stand it.

The pop-ups aren't really an issue for me since we don't watch any live TV now anyway. We are always recording stuff and watching it later. I even wait half an hour after a hockey game has started before I'll watch just so I can skip commercials. The only time I watch any live tv is when I am on the computer, watching a game on my phone or the kids are watching Nick or Disney.

Yeah, the MLB does have blackout restrictions. I use the MLB at Bat app annually and am subject to the blackouts :(

Is it possible to get rid of my Xfinity TV service and still see all the network shows and movies I have access to? I have a Hulu Plus membership, Netflix membership, I'm considering Crackle and Vudu as well... It would still be a HUGE monthly savings.

Has anyone here taken the plunge? What's involved? What am I not thinking about?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Sounds like you're in the same boat as OfTheDamned so I moved your post over here.

I'm thinking some of your questions might be covered in the posts above and if not, shoot! :)
