CWM changed?

Just changed my kernel from speedmod to siyah and now my cwm gives me a message when opened that i have to use cf root 5 or higher and some features have been disabled. I now cant use it to make or restore backups?

Has anyone else got that? Im sure i had cwm 2 previously but its not cwm 3. Are we now being forced to use chainfires kernel if we want to use his cwm app?

but why has my cwm app changed and blocked backup and restore?

edit: nevermind, ive found an apk to download for cwm 2.0, installed that and now i dont get that message. Can back and restore again

i certainly wont be updating to cwm 3.0 at any point in the future if it will onyl work with cf root kernels

Because the current CWM version is 5.x.x.x. All supported devices are now offered v5.x.x.x if it's available as there are significant performance improvements.

Expect all recent and future custom kernels to use CWM3.

i cant be the only one thats cwm app had this message come up lol

Bit confused as to why it seems i am. Ive been chopping and changing kernels since the days of my htc hero and all the time on the gs2, i know about different recoveries but this is the first time ive ever seen that message pop up on screen telling me the cwm app is not compatible with anything other than a cf root kernel.

It's only "incompatible with a CF-root kernel" because Chainfire's root kernels still include the earlier version of the recovery. This is the first recovery update since the GS2 was released, which is why it has never cropped up before.

It didnt say incompatible with a cf root, it said it would only work fully with a cf root and as i was using a non cf root then some features were disabled. I.E the backup and restore feature.

Anyway, its sorted now, ill just carry on using the cwm 2.0 apk instead.

May as well lock this thread.

I'm sorry, I only went by the words you yourself used.

The explanation still stands. CWM 2.0 requires Clockwork Recovery 4.x.x.x, while v3.0 requires CWMR 5.x.x.x

Hi, I have a nandroidbackup made using CWM 5.0.2.7. And I want to restore it. Now I have CyanogenMod7 and I have Clockworkmod 5.0.0.6.

So I copied the nandroidbackup from external_sd to internal_sd, and now when it shows up in my restore menu.
Is there any problem that the backup was made with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.7 and I restore it with Clockworkmod 5.0.2.6 ?
