a friend of mine asked me to root his phone (which i was able to) but i wasnt able to get the recovery to install (update.zip), it wasnt in the cwm folder as per the instructions does anyone have the file so i can install it?

thx

I got it to work with Odin. It is pretty awesome! But for some reason it doesn't want to stick? The cwm recovery shows up at first, then when I try to get back into cwm recovery via vol up/down and power, it goes back to android system recovery? I really like this Odin deal and follwed everything to a T. Am I doing something wrong here?

You have to flash a kernal right after installing CWM for it to stick.

Which would you recommend I should use? I'm still on stock ROM until I get this worked out. If you could shoot me a link to proper kernal I'd be stoked?
Thanks for your help man! I really like the whole Odin deal too! This SF is pretty fun so far..

Okay, so I flashed the following kernal zip and now I'm stuck in bootloop!! I can gett into recovery but my stupid ass didn't do a backup? Can someone please help me get my action working again?

Voodoo-stable-5.5.3-Froyo-GT-I9000-unsigned-update.zip

Arrrrgggg. That kernal is for a different model phone. You are going to need a full odin package to get straight.

No offense but you are going to need to do some major reasearch before going forward. Take some more time to read this forums root section and the stickiest at xda. All of your issues and questions have been addressed ad nauseum.

Yeah I know!! I got it corrected, had to go back to bone-stock! no biggie, at least I got a clean slate to work with now!

Thanks man, could you shoot me a link to an appropriate kernal so I don't have that issue again?

Ok, so I flashed a kernal and got recovery to stick. Tried MIUI 1.7.. on my girl's SF and we had issues with mobile service/data. So went back to stock ROM rooted. I'm not sure which one I want on mine yet? Any recommendations?

[KERNEL][07.04.11][cm7 or miui] OTB (fascinatemtd) - xda-developers

this one?? And should I flash it before or after flashing MIUI ROM?

Tried COMROM 2.0, flashed 2.1 patch over it, but now for some reason I can't re-store my apps though TB Pro? Says it's re-storing, says it's done, however all my backed up apps don't re-store? I've never had this isssue with TB before, as it's pretty-much a flawless app!!
Might just flash nandroid b-up and go back to stock! Unless anyone has a quick fix??

I think I just had to redo the busybox "problems" thing, I think it's workin' now?
Would you suggest flashing that OTB kernal over COMROM 2.1?

I tried to flash that Samsung screen capture patch, didn't work out to well? Just started force close everything on boot-up! I would really like to have that too? I did nandroid bu and I'm good, but like I said I'd like to have that feature again!!
If anyone has any ideas on how to re-enable Samsung screen capture, hook a whitey up!?!?!?!

I would just try one of the capture apps from the market. The stock capture meathos was removed due to requests from users of com rom. I had a folder with several pocket pics. It was like having my old blackberry all over again.
