Root Cyanogen Mod??

I'm using my HTC Incredible and I'm debating whether to switch over to cyanogen mod. I'm already rooted. Pros and Cons anyone? Thanks!

Pros: Blazing fast, improved battery life, no bloat, many MANY useful tweaks (I love the permission editing on the recent nightlies!)

Cons: No Sense widgets or apps. Can be touchy to get bug-free installation. May need to try different kernels.

If you're a cautious sort and haven't ever flashed a ROM, a good stable Sense ROM might be a better starting point, but YMMV.

I love CM7. First ROM I flashed, and only one I've stuck with. I've tried many more, and haven't loved any like I do CM7. Just sayin' :D

I was like you, just rooted a few days ago and flashed CM7 two days ago and love it, mostly. Takes a little getting used to a few things but is fast and my battery life has improved so much I dont even know if I'm gonna flash the kernel I have.

CM7 is the shit. I've noticed a huge increase in battery life. :D :D CM7 is one of the more stable ROMs and will be compatible with most apps.

CM7 rox my sox

Try miui or cm7. Both are very good. I'd use Chad's kernel for either one.

Download miui from miui.us. cm7 from their website.

Xda has threads in all 3.

I just flashed CM7 on my phone and I can't find the visual voicemail. I downloaded the one on the market. When I try to use it my phones tells me " Your phone comes with built-in Visual Voice Mail features. For the best experience, please uninstall this version of the application." It won't allow me to use the one I downloaded at all. So can somebody tell me where can I find the built-in one on my phone please?

I've had CM7 for a while now and I love it!! best rom ever.

I use launcher pro instead of ADW.

Mine randomly freezes or has weird glitches but very seldom.

i downloaded this ROM, but how do i get it to have normal apps. It wont sync to my google account.

So I downloaded the Google Apps package per the sparse wiki, but they wont install. This is after I had to dl the zip, extract to my harddrive, and try each one individually, because there is no titanium or astro or APK installer installed. There must be an easier way!!

You flash gapps just like you flash a rom. To to recovery. Flash a zip from SD. Find gapps. Flash. Done

I always wipe both caches when I flash anything.

Appreciate this. I actually figured this out from research on here, but during the GAPPs install i got a ton of errors from the market. So that was that. Fail. A ton of folks know this works great, so its just my luck i guess. I might try again one day, but a couple thing I learned is that i really like the HTC sense UI, so any future ROMS will have that.

I spent many many hours on this ROOT and ROM stuff and while a learning experience, am not so sure it was worth it. At this point i flashed back to the factory reset ROM, but now my phone speaker (for the ring) is permanently disabled so phone wont ring nor can i switch to speaker phone. Huge Fail, but thats another post.

Reminds me of when i experimented with homnescreen installers. Fun for a while, but non were really stable or worked as good as stock. Part of me wishes i had that part of my life back. ;)

I see your point on some things you said but to call out fail is a little extreme. Sure I have had a few stumbles here and there but the sound of your post leads me to think that you need to do some more research and seek more answers if you plan to ever return to the dark side. It took me 6 months on my LG Ally to feel like a pro...now I'm just as proficient with my Dinc after another 5 months...just saying.

True, from that standpoint I didnt spend to much time on it.

But my speaker not working forced me back into the game, which I cant complain now about. My solution was ultimately to pay for the premium version of ROM Manager, which made it very easy, as a premium subscription does all the downloading, backing up, and installs all for you. Both my google apps DLs and speaker fixed. Fail now equals SUCCESS!

I ended up with 2 easy DLs of what appear to be the best Sense UI ROM: Skyraider, and also the very popular Cyanogen just so i can play with gingerbread.

To the original poster I cant help just yet.....While I have only spend a fraction of the time using Cyanogen, if there is anything my experience says is: BUY the premium subscription of ROM Manger, it is well worth it for such an awesome program.

I would suggest learning how to do things without rom.manager. I am a big.fan of rom manager but I rarely.use it.now.because I do everything myself.

Love CM7. If MIUI wasn't so unique, I would be a cm7 addict.
