Root Cyanogen vs Oxygen

Depends what launcher you are using.

I like both Oxygen is better on battery. But both are cool... Cyanogen is much more customized

You can use whatever launcher you like.

Personally I'm sticking with CM for the moment. I've got it stripped down to the point where it will fit in the Oxygen partition (I'm actually running 7.1RC1, but crediting 7.0.3 light in my sig still as I used that dev's ideas and one of his modified apps), battery life seems similar to other AOSP ROMs, got plenty of tweaks and features.

TBH I've not spent much time with Oxygen. I tried installing 2.1.5 the other night out of curiosity (clean install), but for some reason it hung up when trying to install Ti, then took forever to shut down (probably same hang), and I just gave up and reverted. That would seem to be a one-off rather than a general problem, but it means that my experience of current Oxygen was pretty much limited to admiring the very retro default wallpaper ;)

I havent tried oxygen. It doesnt work with my favourite kernel.

I tried devnull, but it wouldnt go to the sd mounting screen which was annoying.

Haven't tried Cyanogen but Oxygen has brilliant battery life.

The only time my battery doesn't last the day is when I use GPS for 3 hours+ if I'm out walking.

I've been using CM7 in the past month and was quite satisfied with it.
Last week I've moved to Oxygen and I'm very happy with it.

- It has much-much better battery life than CM7 (see my post here).

- Oxygen is much smaller, so it fits in 100MB System tables, giving 45MB more space for user apps than CM7. This even allows you to keep the Dalvik cache to

- The ROM is much cleaner, so I don't have to use TB to remove unnecessary things

- Oxygen got recent nice improvements, like theme chooser (like in CM7). This means you have access to 100+ themes for your phone without changing your favorite launcher.
Also, a funny but useful feature is to make a screenshot directly from Power menu. Now you don't need Shootme anymore. :)

- The ROM seems to be actively developed (now with v2.1.6) and is using the latest Android v2.3.4 with all its improvements.

Bottom line: for me Oxygen is the winner at this moment.

On battery life though you did say that was minimal usage, and with 20% display I can believe you! Did you do a similar "maximum endurance" test with CM7? I suspect that with that little usage most AOSP ROMs can last that long (e.g. on Sunday I wasn't using it much, and it still read 97% after 6 1/4 hours, with a similar amount of power use from the display). Trouble is, I don't usually have the restraint to test it over that length of time ;)

Have you found any problems associated with the Theme Chooser? It seemed to introduce a few glitches and incompatabilities (most strikingly with WidgetLocker, which would lose all widgets on almost every reboot), and in the end I stopped using it and now remove it from the zips. But I'd be curious as to whether it works better in a non-CM environment (one of the reasons I tried installing Oxygen the other day).

I rooted to escape from clutches of 250 MB sense. Any AOSP with steady updates is good enough for me.

As far as I recall, such a minimal usage on CM7 was lasting about 3 days max.
If I get back to my normal usage, this means practically charging my phone every day under CM7, and charging it only every other day under Oxygen.

I haven't had time to properly test the Theme Chooser, but I don't see anybody complaining in Oxygen topic at XDA.

I was on CM7, switched to Oxygen......back to CM7......then back to Oxygen.

The file size of CM7 is a real deal killer. Sure, it's great and it does a lot.....but my needs don't even come close to what it offers. Oxygen does most of the same things, that I really need, and doesn't eat up my SPACE!

I'm such a n00b. :D

Yet, I sit waiting for the next latest and greatest CDMA ROM. :)

I was on Oxygen 2.1.6 but then decided to switch over to CM7.1 Rc1 for CDMA was originally around 125mb i think but i cut it down to 85 and with a cMTD i have 350mb for internal storage
