Root Cyanogenmod 10.1 RC1 for Spectrum Good Enough?

Hello All,

Right now I'm running the Stock ICS on the LG Spectrum. I find the phone to be somewhat laggy especially after it has been running for several days without a restart. I understand that Jellybean is supposed to be much more responsive. However, I'm reluctant to abandon the stock ICS to go with another ROM only because I don't want to end up with a phone that doesn't completely work. I have been watching this forum and have noticed that there are several ROMs for the Spectrum that are built on Cyanogenmod 10.1. However, it's difficult to tell how stable and reliable these are. I know that to some extent it depends on what capabilities I use on the device. For example, I see that Bluetooth is still a problem with these ROMs. However, I don't use Bluetooth so that's not an issue for me. However, I do occasionally use the GPS so if that didn't work I couldn't use the ROM. I also am concerned about battery life being a problem. The basics are also important. I need the device to "work" as a phone.

I guess what I'm looking for is to try and get a sense of how far along these ROMs are in general. Are they still pretty rough and I would be better off waiting 6 months before trying them? Or are they far enough along now that it makes sense to go ahead and root the phone and try them out now?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, once CM starts labeling things as RC. They're fairly stable. For instance... the only lingering problem with CM roms is the bluetooth problem. Everything else works great. Battery life is much better now that mpdecision is starting reliably (decides whether or not to power off the second core).

Personally, I'd say if you don't use bluetooth there's no reason not to try one of these roms. Root, install CWM. Make a backup of your current stock rom. If you don't like what you see.... restore that backup. No real harm done.

Which one should I start with? Should I try the one directly from Cyanogen or one of the others that are built on top of it? Is there any tweaking required to make it work well on the Spectrum?

Personally I run Pac. The rooms are built from source for this phone so there shouldn't be any need for tweaks...however I find Pac to be laggy unless you tweak it.
If you don't need any of the added features of any of the other roms I would just install cm directly from get.cm

I'm running the elemental x ROM... I've tried all of them so far and I get really good battery life and no lag I've noticed that the GPS is off by a little though. I used the avatar ROM for a while.. I have to say that it is really stable everything ran great except the Bluetooth...if you like the miui look then that s a pretty good rom... In the end it is all up to you. Start with icy fusion 4.5 if you like the way stock is azoller did a really good job with it and then experiment you can always flash back to stock with your back up or if you are like me and have to screw with everything until you get to the oh shit point and realize you accidently erased all your backups.. Then you can use the lg tool " for the life of me I can't remember the name of it I can check when I get home though" with your phone in download mode and it will completely restore everything like you just bought the phone.

Cab flashing using the LG support tool. The thread is by, i believe, playful god.

You might want to try cm 10.1 RC2 :) Been working great for me and lag has been less compared to previous nightlies. As always YMMV ;)

BTW, bluetooth seems to be working much better.

I run CM 10.1 as my daily driver. Works fine besides Bluetooth. GPS is fine for me too. Way less laggy than Stock. i have tried Pacman and AOKP and they are both less laggy and provide good battery life as does CM.

I can see you have installed CM. Good choice.

I'm on aokp mr1,which is the equivalent of rc1...i prefer aokp for the customization, but at the core, it's just cm10.

What customization is available on AOKP that CM 10.1 doesn't have?

AOKP actually has quite a few things CM doesn't. One of the main things I like in AOKP that CM doesnt' have is a lot more options to change the clock (actually elemental X has even more than AOKP) AOKP has built in navigation bar options, a built in way to change and view boot animations, among a few other things I can't recall off the top of my head. Really it's all about trying each one and seeing what you like best. CM gives you a more close to stock feel, whereas AOKP, PACMAN, and Elemental X give you an AOSP look and feel but with more customisation options.

PS. The newest nightly versions of AOKP also has ribbons.

So does Pac for the ribbons

So, still no bluetooth? Arrgh....!

What are you quoting there? I can't recall ever having written that... I quoted someone else once saying something like that.

Bluetooth works... somewhat ok ever since tdm fixed it like a week ago.

Sorry, don't know why it said it was by you, it was from "cubscout".

Quick Q:
I am on CM10.1 beta4, if I want to go to CM10.1 RC2 can I just 'dirty' flash over? Or Should I wipe data/cache in ROMmanager?
Thats all I would need to do, right? Boot into Rom manager, wipe data, wipe cache, flash RC2, reboot?

You should be able to dirty flash.
