Is there much of a difference between beta4 and RC2?

on the surface no. But cm has pie now and perhaps a couple of other new things but really there isn't much difference. Of course on rc2 you won't have the lockscreen on delay but you might notice that beta 4 is smoother. I don't think anything competes with beta 4 smoothness. The latest pacman rom is pretty smooth though.

I don't think beta 4 had the Wi-Fi filtering fix either do you might see better life on Wi-Fi
