Root CyanogenMod 7 (2.3.3)

I used it for about 3 weeks and it has some Nice Touches and is Super Fast but it still Beta and it got it's Bugs. The 2 sort of Big things was if you have External SD Card you can't access though your Computer and when you Power the phone it always ON. These not that big of deal but I did started getting several Force Closures and they appeared more and more as I used the phone and CM7 really uses the Battery. I went back to my old Faithful Custom ROM yesterday(Darky's 9.5) but as soon as CM7 gets more Stable or when Darky get's his Gingerbread out of Testing I will be heading back to a 2.3 based Custom ROM.

i just went to cyanogen last night, had a few problems, right now my lock screen isnt working so my phone never locks, it just sleeps. so im about to figure out what i did wrong cause im sure it was me. i like it so far though

Very nice to know, thank you! I myself need to upgrade my Darky Rom. Any problems with Darky 9.5?

No Problems at all. I really like the work Joel and his team does with the ROM and to Ricky who Ports it for Captivate I am really looking forward to seeing and using his Version 10.

Has anybody flashed this ROM yet? Just wanted to know how it is running so far, what were the major bugs?

i really wanted to flash this, but since flashing this was a little different from other custom ROMs, i opted to just stick with firefly.

i also wanted to wait out a little longer until they fix the kinks in the ROM before flashing it. i definitely want to flash it though in the near future. :)

To get the lockscreen working go to spare parts and change the end button behavior to sleep.

I liked CM7 ran it for about a week but the things that bugged me was the battery drain.

I feel the same as well, I definately can't wait.:D

Watch the video from "MobileTechVideos" on YouTube - Follow it EXACTLY and you're fine - I did and it worked flawlessly.... the flashing part. The Camera was hit or miss for me and that's ultimately why I flashed back.

The ROM is definitely way better than most 2.2 ROMs and has a really different feel - it seems infinitely customizable.

As for the ROM itself and those saying "I'll wait" - Why? You're never gonna get the convenience of flashing 2.3 the same way you flash 2.2; it's a different architecture that requires different installation methods. Flashing to 2.3 is easy and if you don't like it, all you have to do is ODIN back to stock and reflash whatever you want.

You cannot perma brick your phone trying this! I say "What are you scared of?" It's been "beta" for 6 weeks now and have had 10 revisions, getting better each time; They have a method for bug reporting so the more people they have using the beta, the more people can report any bugs that do exist - The more people using the beta, the FASTER we get to seeing a final 2.3 ROM.

Seriously, download it now and FLASH - There is NO reason no to try it.

I agree you just need to follow the instructions EXACTLY. On side note: Make or buy a Phone Jig it was the BEST $8 I have spent in a while and it puts your mind at ease when you Flash.

You'd make a damn fine salesmen. I'm still just going to wait it out though! After hearing why their development is going so slow (from the XDA thread from a member of the captivate dev team) I'm afraid more beta testers will not speed things up. The problem is they don't have certain source code that they need (the kernel for one), and the reason they NEED it is because Samsung designed our phones in an odd way, an un-android type way, the dev even went so far as to say that he felt that Samsung designed our phones for a different OS and at the last minute changed it to android (and very sloppily). Thus why vanilla 2.3 doesn't work right is because our hardware has all sorts of weird ways of doing things and they NEED source code from Samsung, which is locked down and proprietary (unfortunately the Nexus S was designed according to android specs). That and the captivate is not part of the fold over in CM, they are trying to become part of the official effort. Right now a lot of things are holding them back. The least of which is willing subjects.

Just flashed CM7 tonight. I like the customization and the look of the ROM. The problem is the feel. I'm having a lot of the same lagginess and soft-key double-click issues that made me want to get off of 2.1 in the first place. I've tried two different kernels so far; Platypus and Rocketeer. I'm going to wait a little bit and then try out the Escapist kernel. I'm hoping for more luck with that one because it has a 500 Hz and 1000 Hz edition. I can deal with poor battery because there are ways to work around that, but I cannot deal with the lag.

yeah, i do know about the mobiletechvideo youtube page. that's the first place i went to, but that's the reason why i'm not wanting to do it because of how he did the procedure. i had trouble in the beginning with putting 2.2 on my phone and i'm not sure if i want to take the risk until it's more stable.

either way, i'll just wait until the kinks gets fixed and after it's been out for a little while longer. i really like firefly on my captivate and see no reason to switch at this moment in time.

thanks anyway.

I tried CM7 a few weeks ago and it was truly not ready for prime time. I removed it within a few hours.

I've been following its progress on XDA and, even though they finally finished their release candidate, I can tell that it still has a lot of issues for many people.

I continue to wait.

why would you unroot a rom?
thats what i was wondering myself lol.

i dont know what purpose unrooting a rom would be...thats what allows you to be able to flash a custom rom in the first place, and access all the apps/features, you normally wouldnt. so being on a custom rom, and unrooting it, would be rather pointless id think

I just got my captivate about a week ago, I flashed 2.3.3, downloaded rom manager premium so I could flash cyanogenmod 7. when I click download roms it tells me I need to install clockworkmod, I click install and it only gives me options for Nexus S, Nexus S 4G, samsung i9000, and samsung i9000(mtd).....how do I get clockworkmod for my captivate?
