Since we have the source code for Froyo 2.2 for our phone, What is keeping us from making a port of an earlier version of cyanogen mod. say 5 or 6 ? I realize its not possible to program 2.3 easily because of source code. So lets stick with 2.2 .

If you value your camera you won't want CM. The Ally uses third party software for the camera, so it won't work with an AOSP build like CM.

CM would be nice but i use my camera far to often to take pictures of my dishes at the restaurant and of cars while I'm detailing. Far too important to lose to me.

Actually the problem now is that the Radio isn't compatible with CM5/6, and thus we wouldn't have Wifi, 3g or 1x, meaning no calls, text or browsing. Its not impossible to fix, however it is a very hard and drown out process that would take months for any of the devs to do, even as a group.

Dang its always something... this is why google needs to tighten up and make all the androids universal and just make universal updates across the board.

its not google, they just put the base out there. its every phone manufacturer trying to be individual and gain that edge

Not as easy as you think. Thats what Microsoft tried to do with Windows Phone 7, and look how many updates those phones have received.
