CyanogenMod GAPPS installed over stock google apps

xenot7

Newbie
I rooted my stock rom ICS 4.0.4 s2 i9100 and used Siyah kernel 5.0.1. The kernel has a dual boot feature and so I added CyanogenMod 10 to be the second ROM. CyanogenMod doesn't have Gapps preinstalled and so I downloaded the gapps for CM 10. I put the gapps in my external sd card and booted to CWM. In CWM, I flashed the gapps package. But, I noticed that I did a big mistake by flashing the gapps to my stock rom instead of the CM10 ROM. I still flashed the Gapps to CM10, so after that, I booted to my stock ICS ROM and found out that the google apps stopped working and i can't open any of them. I tried to uninstall updates on settings>applications and also installed gapps for CM9 (ICS) on the stock rom but a problem is still there (play store stopped working). I also tried to uninstall play store using TB and reinstall but that also failed. I didn't back up my stock rom because I didn't know an accident like this would happen cos I'm gonna experiment mainly with the CM10 ROM. I know I did a stupid mistake. So, can any one help me.

Thanks in advance
Sorry if I wrote any mistake and sorry for the long post

Not a guarantee especially without wipe, but installing one of the ics neat roms over your stock Rom, then reflash siyah kernel to keep the dual boot......
if it doesn't work then you'll just have to bite the bullet and do full wipes on the stock Rom(neat)
Rom is a stock Rom with some tweaks :-)

Ok then, so you're telling me to find another ICS ROM and reflash the Siyah kernel using odin and thats it. And what do you mean by "neat roms". ans does full wipes on the stock ROM mean a factory reset. Sorry, I'm new at this. Also will my apps be gone if i install an ICS ROM over my stock ICS.

Thanks in advance and thanks for the fast reply

If you flash this androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-international-all-things-root/554062-neat-rom.html ROM over your current stock ROM (make sure you go for one if the ics versions lpw or something I think. Then that should write over the google apps etc, but will keep any of your own downloaded ones with data intact.

If however it doesn't solve the problem, then you will have to wipe all data etc (but not on your second ROM), after flashing neat, you will have toreflash siyah, unless neat comes with it (I can't remember as I've been on the jelly bean roms for so long now!)

So I should get only the ICS neatROM and not the JB one right, or can I use the JB neatROM. And I just install the neatROM directly on the stock rom (without wiping anything) right.
Also, will any ICS neatrom version be fine to use

If you were using stock ics, id stick with neat ics just to be safe, especially as I'm not sure on what combination of kernel will be allowed if dual booting cm10 and stock ROM!

neatROM lite version 3.6 does feature siyah kernel 5.0.1 which I use on my stock ROM. Will that version of neat ICS be fine for any Galaxy s2. and will the apps and data from my stock ROM be transfered to neatROM.

The full version might be a better option, but it depends on wether you use the missing apps or not! Baring in mind, it might not work without having to do a full wipe on your stock Rom, but at least neat is a Sammy based Rom so it's your best chance!

I prefer the lite version becos it remove apps I don't really use, makes the system run faster I think. And btw should I just wipe the Dalvik cache and cache partition?

So, I shouldn't do a factory reset/full wipe but wipe caches and then install neatROM and reboot and all is well. just waiting for download now, will report back when I finish installing neatROM.

Hopefully it should be, if it doesn't work, then you will have to do a full wipe, but you would lose your info anyway!

WOW! It worked! THANKS a million! now my phone works well and there are no more issues with play store. My apps and appdata are not changed/removed.

so, if I install a JB ROM, would it delete my settings and apps. Or will it be like how I just installed neatROM. Sorry for more questions, I just started using ROMs yesterday.

The problem you would have flashing a jelly bean version (cm10 is jelly bean but unstable) is getting a kernel (siyah) to allow dual booting with a stock ROM (neat) and aosp (cm10)

But yes you could just flash a neat jelly bean over the top. Things always work better with complete wipes though, including using hawkers ROM nuke and kernel wipe (search em :-) )

So I just need to backup my current neatROM and use TB to backup my apps right. Then full wipe and I'll install one of the many JB ROMs (4.1/4.2) available using CWM. Then probably use another siyah kernel, right? (i don't really care about dual booting). do i need to backup anything else before wiping? And what things does hawkers ROM nuke wipe? (other than internal storage)

Thanks in advance

Pretty much, have you read the dummies guide on rooting? It explains everything to back up etc in there.

Make a back up of your efs(find app in store)

The latest neat ROM is very customisable and smooth/stable onto the bargain! It will work with the latest siyah.

As for hawkers wipes, do a quick search on here and have a read :-)

Should I use the ROM wipe/nuke becos it seems to also delete appdata, is using that okay
EDIT: Just ignore the previous line, becos I've already istalled neatROM v4.6.1, but read this the next line.
Thank you very much sir for your guidance and suggestions.
