Root Cyanogenmod questions

Hello!

Cyanogenmod has always tempted me, but I've been too frightened to try it. So, here come the questions.

1. Do I need to flash a new radio for the latest stable release? I have version 2.15.00.07.28

2. Do I need S-OFF? Does unrevoked already apply S-OFF?

3. Are there any major bugs in the stable release (ie. No camera support, no wifi support ect)?

4. How do you update to the latest version of Cyanogenmod?

Thanks for your help.

First off: no need to worry! As long as you follow instructions/guides closely, you should find it impossible to brick your phone. :D

1. No need to flash a new radio. You can if you want, but personally I've had no trouble with the stock radio and see no reason to go mucking about with experimental radios for other phones.

2. If you've used the latest unrevoked, you're good to go. You don't even need unrevoked forever.

3. No major bugs that I've come across, as long as you're using 6.1. The nightlies for 7, are, of course, another story, but as long as you stick to stable releases, you should be good.

4. You have a few choices. CM stable releases are far enough apart that it'll be pretty big news when a new version comes out, so it'll be plastered all over the Internet (or at least the parts that care about Android). You can also set ROM Manager to notify you when an update is released, but it seems to produce wonky results on the Inc. You're best off downloading update files manually (from the CM site) and learning your way around ClockworkMod Recovery; it can be a bit intimidating at first, but everything is pretty well labeled and engineered to prevent you from accidentally doing something you shouldn't.

If you've already got it flashed you should be fine, but it can't hurt to make sure you're on the latest version.

Rom manager forced me to update clockwork. Then I downloaded Cyanogenmod, Google Apps, and selected the wipe option, but was greeted by a fastboot screen :(. Now, I can't even access clockwork. What should I do?

You should be in hboot, if you are select recovery and it should boot you into recovery. I used to have this problem with the free version of ROM Manager. Bought the paid version and never had this problem after it. Also is your DINC SLCD? If it is SLCD, check out Slcd and AOSP. The saga. | doug piston

This is somewhat outdated information; the latest releases of unrevoked, CM, and CWR all support SLCD Incredibles.

Thanks for everyone's help. I just reflashed clockwork for a third time and I was able to flash cyanogenmod.
