Cyanogenmod to Android 4.1?

Please excuse any ignorance in this post, as I have very little idea what I am talking about...

I just bought an unlocked, supposedly brand new, AT&T Samsung Captivate Glide from Ebay to use with StraightTalk (yes, I know the phone did not have to be unlocked). It has Android 2.3 installed on it. I have tried to update to Android 4.0/4.1 OTA. The phone will download the update, but then a screen pops up that says something along the lines of "cm 5.0.5" and gives me a list of options like: restart phone, restore phone from SD card, power off. None of the options are to update.

The first time, I simply powered off the phone. It restarted normally. I tried to download the update again, but was told there was no update for my phone, and I could check again in 24 hours. WTH??

I waited the 24 hours and tried again last night, this time just restarting the phone. (Yes, I am a little worried about what any of the other options will do to my phone.) The phone restarted normally, no update.

I did try updating from Kies, but as you all know, that is pointless.

What can I do to update my phone? Why do I have to wait 24 hours between updates?!

A completely separate issue I'm having is that I cannot receive picture messages. I haven't tried to send one yet...

I have tried my APN settings as follows:
Name: STRAIGHT_TALK (have also tried "straight talk")
APN: tfdata
MMSC: (Android forums will not let me post this at this time)
MMS Proxy: (Android forums will not let me post this at this time)
MMS Port: 80
MMS_APN: tfdata

Still can't receive MMS. Any suggestions?

Yes, I did download the latest update, but it won't install. I was mistaken earlier. I don't have Cyanogen Mod on my phone. It's ClockWorks Modification. After I download the update, the phone restarts and the ClockWorks screen comes up. I have tried using it to install the update and it doesn't work. It can't find the file.

I have updated my APN settings according to what StraightTalk's website says, and I still can't send or receive picture messages.

These are the settings I am using:

APN Settings

NAME STRAIGHT_TALK
APN tfdata
MMSC http://mms-tf.net
MMS PROXY mms3.tracfone.com
MMS PORT 80
MMS_APN tfdata

An OTA update won't work with a custom recovery, which is what CWM is. If you can find a custom ROM that's compatible with the phone you could copy the zip to your sd card and install using CWM. Or if you don't want to be rooted and running custom software you'll need to reflash the phone with stock software. I don't know the procedure for Samsung handsets, but someone else will.

BTW if the phone has CWM on it then its software has been modified by the previous owner.

Can you start from scratch, tell us whats on the phone and what youd like to be on it and ill get stuck into tryin to help. Seems bit messy justnow for me tbh. Thanks :)

Thanks for the information and the offer. The phone is now having problems when I'm charging it- the screen turns greenish and gets lines through it. Needless to say, since it is definitely not a new phone and now has this other issue, I'm returning it to the seller.
