Root Darktremor A2SD for Prevail [Updated 5-7-12]

I just meant I even tried formatting the entire sd before creating the partition in CWM.

Ok, the installer is broken, I was hoping I was not doing something stupid with the dt_a2sd lol

But, if I am understanding everything the CM9 install should do an automatic creation of what dt_a2sd does, is that correct?
I was just trying to run it manually so I could see if it worked by itself.

Thanks for explaining the vfat partition I did not realize it worked that way.

NOW I did just as you said booted to CWM, created partition, size 1024 swap 128, rebooted to CM9, opened the app and it said apps were on internal, I clicked it and it brought up working message and went back to apps on internal, i clicked Dalvik and it said on internal, i clicked move and rebuild, it rebooted, then said Android is upgrading I think it said 61 apps, I then went into the app again, it still said on apps on internal and so does Dalvik. I went to setup and storage and it still says internal storage total space is 160mb apps 46.44 available 88.65 mb. This is what I always get

Any more idea? I hope LOL
Thanks for your time
type mount in the terminal app and see if mmcblk0p2 shows up anywhere.
and/or
type a2sd check in the terminal app and let me know if there are any errors.
and/or
type df in the terminal app and post the response

ok, ill do it, ima have to start from zero cause i wouldnt even know how to make a flashable zip, how would i go and copy everything in my system... i wouldnt know how to write the updater script... in fact... wouldnt i be able to use the one from johnys and just place my files in there and rezip it?

sure.

adb pull /system c:/path-to-save

copy over folders in cm9 zip. rename. post.
i thought you said you only changed services.jar. you could simply post your changed files and testers could replace them manually if that's easier for you. be sure to post it to the cm9 thread where this discussion belongs. thanks.

do you get the same result with the other sd card?

from here i would delete the cm9 zip. download it fresh and try flashing again. seems the mount script isn't working properly for whatever reason. possibly a corrupt download.

Ok thank you. The 2gb seems to be able to use A2SD now after following your original instructions on partitioning. I had tried so many There must be a problem with the 8gb card. A2SD now states apps are on the sd, i moved and rebuilt the Dalvik but when it booted it still said it was on internal. I moved it and when it rebooted it said it was on the SD. The problem is I partitioned the card at 1024 with 128 swap. When I check the storage it still says there is only 160mb internal storage size but now only about 5.6mb are used. So although things appear for the most part to be ok the size did not increase from the true internal memory. If you have any other ideas I will try them to get it to recognize the full 1gb. In the meantime I will tinker with it more and if I find anything I will let you know.

Do you know when the dt_a2sd zip is ready? I would like to try it and possibly go to the CTMOD till CM9 is in beta I just wanted to get a look at the future.

Thank you sooo much for your help and your time.

the internal will report incorrectly since the phone believes the apps are on the internal storage, not the sd. use terminal command df to see the actual usage.

ctmod comes with koumakernel/koumamod which does basically the same thing as these scripts. the setup is slightly different, however, and there are more steps involved to move the dalvik-cache. clear instructions for that setup and all of its variables can be found in that thread.

glad you got it sorted out, though.

edit: installer in OP works again

Thank you
i actually had same problem as @Mr.Push with Permission denied
and there was an easy fix for it..
the very first time i typed su in terminal it asked for root Permissions, once i confirmed i typed a2sd reinstall and suddenly all was working..

but now hm ...after it finished phone rebooted it self following with a lot of "terminate" aplication errors, and now all of those app's are missing from phone :S

OK..
i installed a2sd gui,and checked first option, apps are on SD
it rebooted phone, and now most of apps are back, some widgets didn't..

AND my memory usage is still high as it was before all this?
..now i even did "you can also "move and rebuild" dalvik-cache to ext "

meh Go launcher ex does not like this procedure its crashing/restarting it self when ever i try to open something

launchers, in my opinion, should always be in system otherwise you may run into the trouble you have run into.

what rom are you using? how did you partition your card?

i wasn't expecting that fast response ,so i liked your post :P
i was testing on "Fresh Zodiac Fruit v5-2 by Cedric" that's 2.1 update 2 rom
i did clean format of sd via clockwork <recovery_CWM_5.0.2.3_u8120> (SD 8gb kingston just bought today) :P
1gb ext,swap 0
is there an option for restoring app to system from a2sd?i haven't seen that option ,or missed maybe

this port of darktremor a2sd is modified for the samsung prevail. you may have better luck with the original version at xda. your mount points probably differ from this device.

good luck.

i installed Android in my device with clk
my rom = Paranoid JellyBean Android 4.1

all programs i try to installl , installed in my internal memory
i installed A2SD
but when i want to run that i got error
Exiting A2SDGUI
could not start for one of these reasones :
1: Your device is not rooted
2: As2SD Scripts could not be found
3: no EXT partition found

why ???

I followed the instructions that were given in the first post and it just isn't working. a2sdGUI app is not showing up in the app drawer. I am using honeymod6 rom. I don't know why it isn't working for me.

I might add that it worked the first time I flashed this zip unintenionally skipping the step that has to do with partitioning the sd card via CWM. When I noticed I skipped this step I went back and partitioned the sd card and that's when the app disappeared along with all my back ups and everything.

As far as I know there is no version of Paranoid Android for the Prevail. What device are you running?

First problem is that A2sd is not needed with HoneyBread6 and no where in the directions does it say to use a2sd. In fact, it say that the kernel has INTEGRATED A2SD
.

System, Cache, Data are formatted to Ext4
Deodex'd
Zipaligned

Boost Mobile text removed from lockscreen/notification
RAM Optimization script (by Juwe11)
A Few Other Performance Tweaks & Scripts Found at:
[TWEAKS][SCRIPTS] Collection of 'em all - build.prop; init.d; etc. - xda-developers

(Do Not Update Launcher! If you do it will go back to the Market Version, which is not in English)

187MoD-HoneyBread6:
-updated to 2.3.7/w some 2.3.6 & 2.3.5 parts
-Sprint HiddenMenu (working)
-Added Genocide-OverClock-Kernel w/ integrated a2sd
-Added Voltage Control
-Cleaned build.prop
-Removed a couple init.d scripts(caused kernel issues)
-SdCache set to 2048(better results with data2sd OC kernel)
-Updated Adreno Drivers
-New Boot Animation (
This one fits better with the theme)
-New Lockscreen Clock Font
-Changed System Font
-Included Some Of J6's theme
-Fixed some theme issues

Just wanna say thanks to Shabby, Bloodawn, Koumajutsu, Trenchkato, Transitoyspace, and Hroark13. Without your guys developments, time, and help, this Rom would not have been possible.

Also, I want to thank Android Forums for all the helpful threads and people.
I would also like to thank XDA-Developers, The Developers Of Ultimate, APKTool, Dsixda's Kitchen & Of Course Google.

To Install 187MoD-HoneyBread:
-Download your choice of HoneyBread to the root directory of your sdcard.
-Reboot into Recovery, Go to -Advanced>Wipe Dalvik Cache>yes
-Let the install script run.
-Once it has finished, reboot phone.
-ENJOY
:D
Second problem is that when you partitioned you sdcard it formats the ENTIRE card. Therefore all data that is on the card is erased. Meaning that all of your apps, backups, pics, music, whatever else is long gone. Whenever partitioning a sdcard, back it up to your PC FIRST!
Then fully read the directions and if you still have questions ask.

Can install using TWRP ?
Works with stock JB 4.2.2 Rooted?

Hi and welcome to the forums.:) This version of dta2sd has been modified to work with the Samsung galaxy prevail.(And is actually obsolete, since most of the Prevail's roms include a built in solution to low memory) It will likely cause problems on other devices. Which device are you using? I would be more than happy to point you towards the section for phone :)
