Root Darky's Rom V7

sometimes naming the file update.zip doesnt work. im on windows 7 so i believe the computer does it for me so i had to name mine just update. i would do that and try again

I'm on vista and had the same problem! I kept trying and trying, and I was like, " why won't this work???". I felt so silly after I just renamed it "update" and not "update.zip" and it worked <<< I tried that after an hour.:p

Get the ROM only. From the Captivate XDA Forum, not the i9000. Go back to stock first if you dont know how to change kernels. Sounds like you have the wrong kernel.

So which Darky's ROM is known to work without any speaker issue on the Captivate? Also, does anyone else know the difference btwn Darky and Darky's ??? I thought Darky was developed esp for the Captivate. << Well that is what I was grasping from my responses on xda.

The first one you linked to is for the I9000. While it is another Galaxy S phone, it is not the Captivate and there are hardware differences.

Darky develops his ROM for the I9000. Someone else (ytt3r) then makes the required modifications to it so that it works on the Captivate. Links to that ROM are found (appropriately) in the Captivate section of XDA. You can also find a link in the Captivate FAQ, which is mentioned often:

ROM Table - CapFAQ

 ...There are so many ROMs out there, I lost count at a Gazillion. Anyways which is best for a virgin, I mean 1st timer? :o

None are "best". All trade different features/bugs/issues. You just need to decide which one has the stuff you want while at the same time you're willing to live with its current problems.

And be prepared to update frequently. Some of these devs push out several new versions a day... often to fix the new bugs created in a previous version.

Or because they've fixed something that they've been working on for quite some time {cough}haptic on home button{/cough}. Really, sremick, some of them produce really good products - how would you know unless you've tried?

I flashed Assonance and am very happy. I'm about to go to Serendipity, same developer. Check the threads over at XDA, I would give you the link but I'm on my phone.

every since I flashed Darky my Advanced Task Killer is no longer auto-killing. I have it set to Crazy and then auto-kill when the screen is off, but my phone seems to be running apps continuously. any suggestions?

You should not be using ATK in "auto" mode anyhow. This is known to cause all sorts of problems.

Many apps will auto-restart even once killed. Yell at the app author.

when i searched the forum i see what you are talking about. i uninstalled ATK ... testing to see what the difference is going to be.

Flashed 8.01.

Wow!

Tried the stock ROM and the leaked ROM before. Those are slow as molasses compared to this baby.

It says Android version 2.3.1.

The phone is rooted out of the box.

Bluetooth voice dialing works as it should.

Launcher can be changed.

Lock screens can be changed.

Exchange activesync works.

USB tethering listed but not wireless tethering.

No video camera.

This thing is fast.

Eye candy everywhere.

Did I mention this thing is fast?

8.1 is out for the i9000 now with SpeedMod as it's Kernel. It not out for the Captivate unless you want to Change Kernel to a Captivate one and change the modem. I use the Captivate SpeedMod Kernel now and really like the battery life with it.That being said there seems to be complaints about 8.1 on the i9000 forums so I am going to sit and watch this weekend to see what develops.

I LOVE how fast my phone responds with this ROM!

Under "Wireless and network" you can activate "Mobile AP" which turns your phone into a wireless hotspot (up to 5 devices).

My video camera works with this ROM, you are saying yours doesn't right?

Be sure to go to Settings---->Wifi. First turn off Network Notification then Push Bottom Left Menu Button on the phone then Advanced and Under Wi-Fi Sleep Policy be sure it set to "When Screen Turns Off" these steps save battery.

Yup, you are right. Mobile AP will let me do the wireless hotspot.

Here is the interesting thing about the video camera. When the camera app first starts there are all sorts of options around the edge of the screen, one of which is to change to camcorder. After a few seconds those options disappear and I cannot get them back.

Any ideas?

Figured it out, just tap the arrow.

So, if I just load the ROM on top of my 2.1 clean install, I then should still be with the Kernel I need, right?

on Darky v8.1 has anyone had an issue with performance when using Launcher Pro Plus? It seems as though after I started using it, my phone started performing a bit sluggish. Also @ start-up I get a FC or Wait prompt (for LPP).

Hmmm ...
anyone flash Darky v9.0.2 Extreme Edition yet?
