Data and Droid PLAN

So will you be getting the Milestone and going with AT&T? Or does that Verizon subdivision offer an unlimited data plan that's somewhat affordable?

Most likely the Droid on verizon subdivison. I emailed them and he said that he knows they have a plan with unlimited data so he will hook me up when I can do it, now all I have to do is buy the Droid!

My bill cut on the 9th, and I used 7.5GB of data alone on my phone...wife used another 3.5GB and that's just surfing, Facebook, DroidLive and e-mail/calendar. I wouldn't sign anything with Verizon unless it said Unlimited in writing. ;)

Was using Slingbox on my laptop with the Droid via WiFi tethering last night for 2 hours and used 400mbs. 20mbs flies by in, ohh 6 minutes....

That sounds like a great decision, then! Trust me, once you root your device and use the wireless tether for a laptop when you're not near any WiFi, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it. :D

actually I am going to go ahead and buy a Droid from my friend and go straight to Big Red, the other wireless company wanted to charge me 105 dollars a month for everything! And I don't need all unlimited except the data. Is the 30 dollars a month the best one for me?

one question though, doesnt tethering have to be paid for?

$45 unlimited plan is if you connect to exchange servers with work. The tethering is like a $60 plan for 5gb of data. So yes it has to be paid for. If VZW finds out your doing either without paying more, you'll be in big trouble. I think they'll charge you per kb usage which for a smartphone is a whole lot of money.

I have visual voice mail through Google Voice and wifi tethering through gaining root access and installing custom roms and applications, which voids warranty, but the phone can be set back to a condition pre-root where they won't know you rooted.

Alright then I guess tethering isnt what I will be doing for a while! Hey and while Im at it, does Verizon have certain voice.text plans for a phone brought in?

The same voice.text plans for phones you buy from them. And the happiness that they don't have to lose money on subsidizing you a phone because you already have one. Although I guess they couldn't lock you into a 2 year contract.

I'm wondering why you didn't go straight through Verizon in the first place. Also, if it works out for you, you can get the phone cheaper with a 1-year or 2-year contract. Yes, go for the $30 data plan.

And tethering is free through PdaNet without being rooted and free with Wireless Tether after being rooted. Nobody has ever reported being caught with either of these programs yet, and PdaNet has been used on WinMo and Blackberry for quite a long time. I trust it to not let Verizon know, personally. ;)

The Moto Q is a WinMo smartphone. My friend had one when I had the Samsung SCH-i730. It was pretty cool, but personally, I can never see myself being able to use a smarphone without a touch screen.

millions of blackberry users might disagree. :)

I'll echo what everyone else is saying...that's not nearly enough for a day's worth of market surfing and trying out applications, much less a month's worth of usage.

Heck, the google earth app would burn through a month's data on that plan in one download.

Hence why I always got WinMo phones over BBs. The trackball is very useful (it's actually one thing I wish the Droid had, since the N1 and Eris have it), but I can't see myself using it exclusively.

And then when they finally made a touchscreen BB, it was atrocious.

its cheaper with my friend, he is going to sell it to me for 250, which is a deal. So I am going with Verizon with my own phone, thanks!

Haha, yeah, it's $200 to be locked into it for two years, so $250 is quite a good deal if he's just gonna sell it to you. Once you get your plan up and running, check out the All About Root subforum, since you mentioned in the original post you were considering rooting. It's a really good resource. :)

Oh yea, I am going to do that! I will update when I get my stuff up and running!
