how can I find out what is being downloaded onto my galaxy s3

If a file download is in progress you'll see a notification of it in the area at the top of your screen.
For info on a per-app basis, go to Settings and select Data Usage.

thank you, the reason I am asking is that my data usage continues to increase even when I am not using my phone, so I am guessing that something is downloading without my knowledge. my battery only lasts 4 to 5 hours before needing a recharge.
