Data being used.

Alright, so I turned off mobile data on all of my families phones, and now my father is getting all paranoid about the phone because it was apparently using a megabyte of data in the background. Is there anything that I can do about that or am I going to have to listen to him yell about the phone?

Well, if you have turned off mobile data, the only way the phone is using data is if it is connected to wi-fi. Which is free. So shouldn't be an issue...

I always thought that there are *some* things running in the background that actually up/download even though the device is *idle* no? Please set me straight! :p

Thanks

There are lots of apps that automatically look for updates. Here are a few of them:

Weather
Email
Calendars (if you are synchronizing)
Ads inside games and apps

Even normal apps like games may check for a new version on a regular basis. I have turned all my data off and restricted all my apps to use WiFi only unless I tell them otherwise.
