Data consumption

Can some one let me know what eats up the most data on this phone
..so far in a week I'm at 720mb. Is it just the fact that I have no internet at my house so that means no wifi for the time being so I use the phone for basically everything... Also is there a spot on the phone to check the data so I don't have to go to the att website to check it.

There's a free app in the market called AT&T myWireless Mobile that will provide you with your usage information.

Try using *DATA# and <send> in the phone dialer app.
I have the same message using MyWireless, but *DATA# works...

Also, install 3GWatchdog from the market, and set it up as a widget.

I get the same thing. I think anybody with the Captivate who hasn't started a new billing cycle in the last 11 days will as well.

Wait until the day after your next bill and try again.

I use a app from the market called NetCounter to track my data usage.

The main culprits of usage is any type of audio and video streaming ie. Pandora, Youtube, Slacker, etc.

For example, in the ten days between me getting the Captivate and my billing cycle ending (ten days) I used 344MB of data. I do browse the web, but I did some Pandora over 3G as well and downloaded apps.

I'm thinking its the video that's hurting me most.. Like two days ago I was at 430 mb and yesterday I was streaming some 30min tv shows through 3g and last I checked it was at 706mb as of yesterday. So I just have to be more careful and not use my phone for long video streaming unless I'm connected to wifi.

That would be it, also streaming anything like music on Pandora would eat data up. AT&T Data Calculator Check that out, it may help you out just to see what you should and shouldn't be doing.
