Help Data leak bleeding me...

varsh

Lurker
Sorry folks, tried hard to resolve this myself, but could not. OVer the past 1 week (I have had this phone for almost a month now), the battery drains like crazy and the data usage is enormous. I, like most people, have the 200MB plan, and cant afford to lose 5-6 MB unintentionally daily. I had the Calendar hooked up to appointments from my office PC, but stopped that recently as most of the time, the battery usage stats would point out to Display and Calendar as the ones most using power.

I have auto sync turned off. I have Background data disabled. I hardly use facebook or gmail on my phone. So what is the problem. Is there a way of knowing what exactly is bleeding my data and my battery slowly but surely? It takes me more than two hours to charge my phone completely. Is that all right?

I am at my wits end now!

I had the same problem about 6 weeks ago. I finally solved it by backing up my data and doing a factory reset. I could never figure out what caused it, but it has not returned. (I'm looking very hard for some wood to knock on, right now.) As sremick said, until we get 2.2, there is no way to track data usage.

Got lucky today and checked my phone when exactly some update was happening. When I pulled down the task bar, i saw that the LISTEN app was downloading items. And when I checked the refresh option on it, it said refresh every hour!!! No wonder my data usage zoomed northwards! :o

Thanks for the tips anyways guys.

You can download an app called droidwall, you basically check off which app you want to have access to 3g or wifi, if its not checked off then its not going to access anything.

Droidwall requires root, and not all users may be comfortable with hacking their phone.

It also won't tell you which of your allowed apps is being the hog. You need to use process of elimination.
