Help Data Leak?

Hello everyone.

Im having an issue. My daughters phone is eating data. She is usually used only about a gig a month since she got the turbo she has gone through 2.6gig in 15 days. In fact I added a gig and she blew threw over half of that that night while sleeping and the phone on wifi. The phone itself shows she only went through .6g but verizon is showing her phone using much more during the same time period. A google search showed some w similar problems here : forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/help/mystery-data-usage-t2933286/page3

The phone *should* use WiFi data over mobile data when there is a connection, but you may want to look at the advanced settings just to make sure that they are set up to work best.

Go to settings / Wifi. Tap the three dot menu control on the bottom right, and then advanced. Check to see what the following settings are set to:

- Keep WiFi on during sleep: set this to "Always"

- Avoid poor connections: I'd think about turning this off, to see if this helps. Maybe the phone is switching from WiFi to mobile data when it's on the edge of a WiFi connection

It's very disturbing, though, that the phone is reporting that much less mobile data usage than Verizon does. I don't have a Droid Turbo - I have last year's Droid Maxx - but my phone's data usage is close enough to the amount that Verizon says that I can say it's a quite reliable measure.

In that screen settings / data usage, it will list the apps that are using the most mobile data. You may want to go into the settings for the apps to turn off background data, or scheduled updates, such as the Facebook app. Of course, if the data usage amount on this screen doesn't match what Verizon says she's using, then maybe this screen isn't a reliable indicator of data usage. Still, it wouldn't hurt to see which apps are using the data.

One other idea, until you get this sorted out: in settings / data usage, have her turn off mobile data when she goes to bed, and then turn it back on when she wakes up, so at least her phone won't be using up data while she sleeps. (Or turn off the phone when she goes to bed and turn it back on when she wakes.)

Just talked to verizon T2. Stated it is now a known issue credit will be issued after the fact for overages until there is a fix.

I'm having the same issues and called Verizon and they claim there is no issue and wouldn't cover my overages for the month. I'll see next month, but so far this month, I've used double the my previous high data amount. What a bunch of BS.

Thanks for the heads up. I go WiFi at home and the office so should be good to go.

I converted form a Maxx to a Turbo. I have 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz WiFi in my office/home. Everywhere I went in that location with the Maxx was covered by the 2.4GHz.

With the Turbo in locations distant from the router it drops into 5.0GHz or data.

Suggestion ... monitor your Turbo closely to make sure it is not dropping into data when you don't expect it. The WiFi coverage does seem shorter with the Turbo.

That's good. What a weird bug!

I would still check those WiFi settings, just to be sure. I think the default for "Keep WiFi on during sleep" is "always", but it won't hurt to check...
