Data Plan Question

I apologize if I ask dumb questions, but I have zero experience with droid phones so I am usually in the dark with these things.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, my upgrade is Saturday, March 26. I am 90% sure that I am going with the TB but I need some clarification on the data plan.

If I go with the unlimited data plan for $29.99, and VZW comes out with a tiered 4g plan (I'm not even exactly sure what tiered means), does that mean I am locked in with my unlimited $29.99 plan or will they change it? And if I am locked in, am I locked in forever, or just for the remainder of my contract?

I have also looked into the Incredible S (I am not at all interested in the Bionic, because I do not like Motorola phones, so the TB seems to be the obvious choice for me) that will be out in Q2, but I heard that it will not be 4g. If I can get grandfathered into a plan now, why not get the 4g? It doesn't make much sense.

Chances are you will get grandfathered in but there is no guarantee for any of us on that. Only Verizon knows what they are going to do.
 
Right now 4G is unlimited and costs $30/month. The best way to describe a tiered data plan is to give an example: 2GB/month for $20/month or 4GB/month for $40/month. The current thought is to get "locked into" unlimited now and in the future your unlimited plan will be grandfathered. You will only be locked in for the length of your contract.
 
Off topic, but being that you're only three days away, you would more than likely be able to upgrade now by calling CS or going into a corporate store.

Do you guys think that eventually all data plans will be tiered or do you think they will keep the unlimited plan for the 3g in case once our contract is up we want to just get a 3g smartphone and remain on an unlimited plan?

Verizon has said they will eventually go to tiered data plans. People who have unlimited 3G or 4G should be grandfathered in. However, once tiered plans are out new customers will not be able to sign up for an unlimited data plan.
