If you look in (from home) menu->settings->accounts & sync it should show you the account that you have set up to sync, and, if you tap one of them (most likely the Google account), it should show which of the items is stuck in a sync loop.
Report back which one it is and I should be able to give you the remedy.
Well, actually, the remedy is likely this:
- first, go to that location and turn off background sync temporarily
- go to (from home) settings->applications->manage applications
- allow the list to refresh - it can take a few minutes
- go to menu->sort by size then menu->sort a-z (to make things easier to find)
- if it is a contacts issue, go to contacts storage and tap it. If it is a calendar issue, go to calendar storage and tap it. If it is a gmail issue, go to gmail storage and tap it
- for whichever one that you tapped, tap the "clear data" button within that application.
- go back to settings->accounts & sync and turn background sync back on again
It should go through a data sync cycle to re-populate the item that you cleared, but then it *should* be stable and only sync when there are changes.
