data traffic

Hi - I just bought an X8 for my son. It seems to be a fine phone for the price. He likes to download various "free" games from the "market" - and while they may be free, they are downloaded via the telephone network, and after a week or two of downloads, the data-traffic price starts to mount up!

(I assume "market" is a common place for downloading phone sofware?)

I have disabled "data-traffic", and only allowed for connection to our home wifi - which is then essentially free. Is this enough to ensure that no data downloads will occur via the telephone network?

Another menu called "accounts and synchronisation" has a sub-menu called "background data". It appears this has to be enabled to allow games to be downloaded? (At least one game would not download until I enabled "background data"). Does "background data" use the wifi connection or the telephone network?

Thanks for any pointers!

Peter

Once you have turned off Data Traffic you will not have to worry about data charges from the network as this means the handset is no longer using the network for internet access.

:)

turn off data traffic at Settings> wireless& networks> mobile networks> data traffic..
just to be safe, turn off 'use wireless networks' for the GPS at Settings>location&security>use wireless networks..

maybe your son has been sending MMSes to his GF hehehe
