data usage/control etc

Hi guys,

So I couldn't find a topic under the HTC Desire HD for this so thought I'd give a quick shout for help... I have a maximum of 500mb download and I just installed an app called 3G Watchdog which is very handy at allowing me to check how much I've used etc but even though I've turned off data roaming, auto sync, and a bunch of other stuff I still seem to be sending and recieving data according to the watchdog, albeit a pretty small amount, it appears to go up by about 100kb every minute or so... is there ANYWAY to turn this off without stopping incoming calls and txts etc or am I screwed? It says I'm on 3G now in the status bar along the top, does that mean my phone will always transfer data even if I've deactivated the syncing etc? thanks in advance

3G Watchdog Pro would show you the data of every app.
So would TrafficStats and TrafficInfo.

You can just disable mobile data entirely by going to Settings >> Wireless and Network >> Mobile Networks >> Data Enabled. You can achieve the same with the mobile data widget that comes preinstalled. This will stop your data usage 100%.

Calls and texts however, will still work perfectly. I don't know how this impacts MMS messages, as I've never used them.

I always had to enable data if I wanted to send/receive MMS. That was on CM7 though, not sure if the stock ROM is any different or it's a network thing?

You still get notified of them when they arrive, even though they wouldn't be downloaded, right?

If you go into your settings and accounts and sync you can turn off background data which will prevent constant increase of data. If you try and use a program that needs the background data enabled it will tell you (market) and then when your done you can easily turn it back off
