Data usage

Sorry in advance for this question since it's probably a simple one. I am new to the smartphone . I graduated from the dumbphones a week ago and I have a spinning head right now. Anyway I was wondering what kind and how mush data is bieng used when I am not using my phone. I ask this because I noticed my little data arrows are constantly on even when my phone is not in use. Since I came from an unlimited data plan with my dumbphones and they would not grandfather the unlimited data in, and now I have a mere 2GB to work with , I thought I might ask. I just don't want to download a ton of stuff and go over my limit. Thanks in advance!!!!!

You could download 3G Watchdog from the Market to monitor data consumption

Try disabling background data. That way there is only data usage when you allow it. Things in the background using data will most likely be apps updating like weather, Facebook, twitter etc.
