...day 6...battery still sucks

i'm just wondering how much are y'all using your phone? I was heavily using mine yesterday and after 12 hours and was still at 50%... after playing with it more i finally got it to drop to 15% and the charge notifcation finally popped up after about 14 hours of off charge... but again. heavy usage. a lot of internet, tons of texts and e-mails and a few phone calls to boot. i consider that heavy usage. i was non stop playing with the thing and it wouldn't die. no i haven't turned anything off. factory settings here.

Games. Tons of them. I have pretty good reception and I do keep my GPS on most of the time (geotagging was one of the features I liked most about this phone). I've tried the various tricks, but I am seriously rough on this battery. Go download a 3D game or a full screen type game and give it a go, see how long the battery lasts. I'm not really complaining, I love this phone. I also understand that for my usage that I'm going to need a more powerful battery.

Battery definitely does NOT suck

Is it a beast? nanh but it's been great for me.....so far!

Little 1300mah pulling it's weight... been nice. ;)

I noticed after uninstalling skype my battery lasts slightly longer but I agree it is subpar indeed. The Eris I am coming from was far better on battery life. I still love the phone. Just be happy we can easily change the battery unlike iphoners.

My battery is dead by early evening! This is with average use throughout the day. As I know it takes a few weeks to really have the battery conditioned, but As of now its not very good! Coming from a 3Gs that would last me until either late evening or just about the next day, this is not very good. But its a stock battery and there are some alternatives out there with extended batteries. I'll give it another week or so and see how it pans out before pulling the trigger on the extended!

I get fantastic battery life.

Gotta make the tweaks suggested above and care for your phone.

going to have to agree with original poster, battery sucks, and i've done the rogue process experiment. My awak and up time are WAAAY different, so I know my phone goes to sleep, I lost 15% in 25 minutes today, and that was from unplugged this morning to getting to work, half way through I remembered I forgot to turn off mobile network and turned it off. Got to work nice little 85%, had only used the phone for 5 minutes off the charger and it was to check the web for some scores on ESPN.

two nights ago, I took it off the charger 15 minutes or so after it was 100% 11 pm, surfed for about 10 minutes, turned EVERYTHING OFF and put it in airplane mode and went to bed, woke up, battery was 80%.....my wife's battery behaves the same way.

My band is CDMA auto not GSM, I about -80 -90 at work, but keep mobile network turned off for nearly the whole day and I still can't make it to the end of the work day, and neither can the 2 guys that got them a couple days ago. We all are charging them at work....

I get about 20 with medium-heavy use.

Very happy about that.. I'm not sure what I'm doing right though. Seems like a lot of people have my experience.

I can't list all of em, but only about 20 or so in the background. I have advance task killer working for me killing most apps a few times a day

I know people are back and forth about the usefulness off ATK so I decided to delete it to see if it made a difference on battery life...It most definitely does. I've seen a huge difference in the past couple of days since going without it.

I had a Hero for a month prior to the Incredible. That battery was awful. If you took it off the charger at 8a, you usually needed to charge it by 5p. This was with normal daily usage, checking email, some phone calls and some text messages.

With the Inc, I can easily go until 11p on the one charge with the same amount of usage, or more. It's been fantastic. Much closer to the level I experienced with the iPhone than with the Hero.

I have no complaints about the battery life of the Inc.

I had ATK on my Eris.....for one day it sucked my battery dry! I'm with you :-)

Heh, you haven't had a smartphone before have you? My touch with winMo was not synced to email and I used it less and I couldnt make it a day (even with oem battery replacement). With the incredible I have gmail synced and play with it a lot more (including cpu hungry emus) and I have more than 50% at the end of the day.

Yeah, I get that. I guess I'm just trying to get everyone else to realize that. There's hundreds of pages on making excuse for the battery and I'm just baffled by that I guess. Why can't people just say it's sub-par and move on?
Because that is an unacceptable resolution. We need to figure out how to get the best battery life for what we do with this phone. Let's get constructive here.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize there was a full page of posts here. We seem to be making progress.

I don't post in here often because I prefer to lurk/read/learn from other rather than just ask the same questions all the time, but I just wanted to chime and and state my experience with battery life.

I was having horrid life with my incredible as well, I downloaded an app to monitor cpu and noticed that the updated Google Maps that had been downloaded was spiking to 50% cpu every few seconds. I uninstalled the update for google maps and now the phones battery life has doubled.

You guys having problems might want to monitor your cpu usage a little bit to see if you have any similar apps chewing up the cpu.

Yes, the battery isn't great. I have been using it moderately, but still couldn't get through one day (about 12 hours).

Yesterday, I did the factory reset. I've re-configured everything, let's see what happens to the battery life.

"A day" is subjective.

"A day" to me means 16+ hours. Long enough to wake up, take my phone off the charger, go to work for a full 10 hour day, hit up a bar/store after work, and hit my bed that evening with enough juice to not need a charge. I want to be able to use my phone moderately during that time. Every other smart phone I have used makes it through that usage pattern.

"A day" for the Droid Incredible is ... take it off the charger, dead by the time I leave work, requires a charge somewhere during the day to make it through any manageable period of the evening. Additionally, I have to severely limit my usage of the phone, disable a significant amount of features, turn down my screen, and for the most part kill any background app that would use any amount of CPU.

However, the issue isn't the phone. The reality is the battery is slightly undersized for the cdma/cpu combo on this phone. To be on par with most other touch screen smart phones they needed to include a larger battery out-of-the-box. Fortunately, we can purchase one...
I'm trying to envision how much phone usage would require a charge in the middle of the day on a work day. I have never had this issue and I cannot imagine this ever happening to me (though I'm not using my cell phone more than an hour at work). Most of my phone usage is in morning before work and in evenings. Even when I was on the road for work earlier in the week and used the phone a lot (voice, e-emails, and GPS navigation) I was not even close to killing my battery (ended work day at 40%).You said you "leave work" so it does not sound like your job is on the road. Do you have a very long commute to work where you using phone non-stop or is part of your job being on your cell phone most the day? Are you streaming music to your phone all day? When you have to charge the phone in the middle of the day how much up time and how much awake time and could you share your battery use detail with us?

The stock battery DOES suck. I want to keep everything on.. GPS, WiFi, Mobile, etc... I didn't buy a smart phone so that I can constantly mess with it, toggling stuff on and off.

I look at the stock battery like how I look at the 2gb microSD that came with the phone. It's just bare minimum to get the phone running. Once the extended battery comes out, I will be happy. I just wish they had included the extended or the 1500mah battery with the phone instead of this weak one.

3 of the 4 were BB users. They all had the storm (as did I) which is a touch screen. Anyway, clearly I'm getting much more than I had with the storm, just half the battery life, that's all.

+1 No one is really saying that the phone sucks. It is a great phone and the best ive ever used. The problem is just the battery. My storm with same usage would last me longer, there are 4 things i missed my storm about (really 3 since I can upgrade 1 of them). BBM, music player, push notifications, and battery life. But the Inc more than enough makes up for that and gives me more. It was just a bad combo, its like getting a fast nice car that wastes a lot of gas and has a small gas tank with an upgradable one.

The battery life on my first incredible was not very good (10hrs or so after a few days of full drain/charge while off to calibrate). I replaced my phone due to sound quality issues and have decided to NOT do what I did with the last phone. Which is, install a bunch of apps, then determine battery life is crap.

Instead, I did the full drain/charge while off thing. I also leave gps and wifi off unless I need them. Today is my first full day running in an OEM setup and it looks like I get to the 16 hr mark mentioned in this thread. After a few days using the phone OEM only (except for battery life app), I'll add apps one per charge cycle to see their effect on battery life.

No doubt some batteries are better than others, but I'm guessing some have apps installed that are the problem.

Side note: I had ATK on the last phone. I removed it and my battery life improved. Put me in the Android no task killer apps camp.

I can't list all of em, but only about 20 or so in the background. I have advance task killer working for me killing most apps a few times a day

Get a app called "System". I believe you will discover by using it that most of those apps your killing over and over again are actually domant and are not using any battery power. The act of killing them however is using battery power.

Very frustrating for someone who is new to a Smartphone.
I downloaded a battery app. Even having the battery at 87% it says I will only get a couple hours of internet or 3 hours of talk time. I use the internet a lot. Wading throuhg the hints for turning off this and doing that is time consuming and making me crazy. Not sure if it is me or the phone at this point. Love the phone but not sure it is worth it if I can't use it when I need it. Like my husband said, "I hope I never have to make an emergency call".

I know people are back and forth about the usefulness off ATK so I decided to delete it to see if it made a difference on battery life...It most definitely does. I've seen a huge difference in the past couple of days since going without it.

But here's the thing about ATK. I only run it every so often to kill apps. When i kill the apps, I also kill ATK. So it's only running for just a few seconds out of the day. I can understand if I had it running all the time, but I don't.

I came from a palm centro. When I use the Inc exactly like the centro (all i did was text and calls) I get a longer charge out of it then I did with the centro. My wife had a storm right before this and shes only seeing a little less battery time, mostly due to her using this a lot more due to speed/ability over the storm 1.

In my opinion the batteries were release with a bell curve of strength. a few users are reporting days of use while others report only 2 hours. Then there is the middle of the ground that has most users. Yet, the middle ground still seems a little low for the most part and can be fixed with a better battery, this doesn't mean that the stock battery is horrid
