Welcome to the forums, drboswell.

I am not familiar with tablets and am not sure which one you have, but here are 2 possibilities i came up with for you.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 - Android Forums

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - Android Forums

There are friendly folk in both of them, I am sure, who may be able to give you insight and get you on the way to understanding and enjoying your device!
