deactivated Droid, use as iPod Touch?

I want to upgrade to Droid2. The gf wants an iPod Touch. If I just upgrade my Droid 1, can she use it as a basic "iPod Touch" device?

Would I be able to put her gmail account into it? And she can get apps, browse market, etc etc.... via WiFi of course... ?

Basically without VZ's 3G connection, this will still be a powerful tool/PDA for her... So i think...

excellent! Wasnt aware of that little tip!
How about the gmail stuff? I dont want her in my account, can it be changed after the fact? She could do all HER emails, an market stuff via her own gmail?

Sure, just do a factory reset on your phone through the Settings menu and all of your data will be removed from the phone (the stuff on the SD card will stay intact, though). Then bypass the activation screen and she can go into the settings menu to put in her own GMail account credentials.

if you want to retain the apps though on your phone for her to use with out haveing to redownload them, look for apps2sd. It will put your apps on your sd card and then you can install them once you are back in business after the reset.

welp, scratch that idea, cant even get Droid2 thru VZ anymore... that was a short lived option. Droid2 global, they wanted $199 with my discount. Ah well, I'll wait a lil longer I guess. I have no comlaints with my present droid1 :)

Yeah, they ended the New Every 2 deal now, as well as the $30-$100 discount on a new phone.

Just get her the new iPod Touch if she wants a music player/PDA. With the Droid she does have access to apps and all but so does the iPod Touch. But in addition to this, there are a lot more accessories and devices that allow for iPod integration, for examples docks like the iHome or if she works out, the machines are sometimes fitted for iPods. Cars as well.

You can do it with the Droid, but it may be a bit more complicated and possibly more expensive. And especially since you're now stuck with your Droid for a bit more, these new iPod Touches maybe worth it.
