Dead Pixel Test

I just got the HTC hero today from sprint not even 6 hours ago. I've used the phone a few times today and when I got back from the movies I thought there was dust under the screen, but to my amazement it was a dead pixel. I've downloaded an app that is trying to revive it but I don't think it's going to work. I went through a samsung moment because f the battery life and I'm loving the freaking hero so much more. Not even 6 hours into it I have a dead pixel :(.

Every single LCD screen has dead pixels, and if you read most manufacturers spec's the will clearly lay out the acceptable number per that they consider normal and not to be defective. That said... usually they don't bother me because you have to LOOK for them... but if a few were to be closely positioned then it might be noticeable enough to require corrective action. :)

Well, I did this on my phone and noticed I had a lot of dead pix :(.

Here is how you do it:

1. Go to the your backlight setting and turn it up to 100.
MENU>Setting>Sound & Display>Brightness

You have to disable the auto blacklight first.

2. Launch you camera app

3. Hold your finger over the camera lens and count the dead pixels

I was disappointed to actually see so many. You really don't notice them during normal. Unfortunately for me, Best Buy has a cap on Sprint phones (only able to exchange 3) returned and exchanged. I have to take mines to a authorized Sprint repair store.

Does anyone else have dead pixels?

You mean you did not even know you head dead pixels until you did this?

I knew I had some because when I did a soft reset, I could see a couple dead spots. I just didn't realize how many I had until after the test. Before the test I thought I had 2-3 dead pixels. After the test, it revealed 10+ dead pixels.:(
