Dead Space: Another Great Horror Franchise Turned Into a Typical Action Game?

I haven't played DS3 yet, and I still want to when the price drops, but it's looking like Silent Hill is the last true horror franchise standing.

I'm sure it is still a fun game, but there are plenty of action games to choose from already. Is survival horror just a dead genre or what? I love horror games, but they are few and far between these days. Am I the only one who misses pure horror?

Yeah, I played the Demo and while it was fun I just didn't get scared. I barely jumped and was more surprised. Perhaps in the full game it get's scarier later on. IMO, Condemned was a good creepy game.

I have Condemned 2: Bloodshot on PS3. That is a pretty cool game. Wonder if they'll make another one.

I found Condemned 2 to be far creepier than 1.


FEAR underwent the same issues from 1 to 2 to 3. The first, I could barely play parts of. The second wasn't as bad, the third I blasted through.

You want good horror? Amnesia. Call of Cthulhu, Dark Corners of hte Earth.

Those two are excellent.

Fatal frame is a good horror I've heard especially Crimson Butterfly.

Played all three FEAR games. By the third one it was a straight up shooter.
The Fatal Frame games were decent but hard. They haven't made any of those since PS2 though.

I played only two of the FEAR games. FEAR 1 IMO, was creepier.

Got a Game Informer today and Dead Space 3 got a 9. I kinda don't get the whole 9.5 8.37 thing. The game was just good enough to get a 9.5, but not a 10.
Another creepy game I have heard of is Slender.

The Slender Man. Far from scary. I found myself laughing the whole time because the damn guy wouldn't appear as I run around like an idiot.

Fatal Frame is a good horror title, someone mentioned it.


"Ghoul Forest 2" and "Ghoul Forest 3" for Doom 2. Using the ZDoom source port.

Yeah it's getting good reviews, they just all say it's not horror anymore. Though GI gave it the highest score by far.

Did you see Deadly Premonition: Directors Cut on page 81 of that same magazine? That looks like it might be interesting. Graphics are not the main consideration for me.
