Dead spot on screen question.

I debated whether to put this in troubleshooting, but it's not so much a problem but a quick technical question.

So I just got this older Motorola Droid from a relative, they had been complaining when they were pressing on the screen it was selecting things they weren't tapping.
So after playing with it for a few minutes I definitely saw what they meant, I then installed that good old multitouch app that shows where you're pressing on the screen. After sliding my finger around I found that if you were to divide the screen into thirds vertically the entire center column is dead, it just doesn't register touch there anymore, it just skips across to either side once you pass the center.

Would I be correct in assuming that if I were to get a replacement digitizer and install it that this would likely be fixed? This phone isn't under warranty and I'd like to just play around with it since it's almost unusable without constant phone rotations as-is.

bump. i had the intention of asking this question...

i have the EXACT SAME problem in my droid and i was wondering if the replacement of the digitizer would solve the problem...
