If you are simply using your 3G internet connection, how are you getting cable-like speeds?

Go to download speed . net and test your connection. I'm not running 100 Mbps but in the range of 2.4 Mbps. My pings are in the 90ms ranges that is confirmed from pingtest.net. I pinged from 5000 miles away under 100ms. I get a b+ rating running off of PDANET. I have no problems and love the speed!

My friend has at&t and we battled on download speed test and ping test. Same servers and same distance. Same roughly Dba connections Mine was -84 his was -83 dba. He got a rating F! (at&t) I got a b+. I tripled his speeds! SCREW At&t!!!! Verizon is way faster. By the way we ran the test 3 times to confirm!

In different locations, this will go different ways.

Sometiems AT&T is way faster in terms of bandwidth. Verizon is limited to 3.6/7.2mb streams, as I understand.

I like to think Verizon > though.

You sure about this??? Because my eris came with a class 2 and I will be upgrading to a class 6... There is an entire thread discussing how much faster c6 is compared to the stock sd card.

I think he is wrong. Class 2 is average and class 6 is blazing fast...I have a class 2 also...

The signal to noise ratio in this thread is high. Too many unrelated posts. May I suggest posts made to this thread be kept on topic?

After playing with my friend (who converted me to Android)'s rooted phone last night, I was blown away at what he could do.

He has a backup image of his phone, on his microSD card, as well as his computer. He could chuck his phone into a river, get a new one with insurance, and put it all back E-X-A-C-Tly the way it was. I'm impressed.

He said that he hasn't felt the need to overclock his CPU. I tried to encourage him anyway.

With both phones rooted, it may be possible to use the Hero on Verizon as an Eris, and the other way around. I'd switch phones with his girlfriend (she has the hero too) because I DISPISE the capacitive home/back/menu/search buttons. They should be physical buttons, as they are on the Hero.

no it wont be possible to use the hero on vzw vice versa with or with out root

sorry:o

Then you need to get a higher class SD card because if you expand the internal memory onto an SD card your phone becomes only as fast as the card you used. If you look at your SD card there is a number stamped on it with a 6 from HTC. class 2 is the fastest you can get and highly recommended to use when doing this.

you probably got mixed up, i bet you mean that class 2 comes with the phone and class 6 is the one to buy...or higher. i actually saw a class 10 from SanDisk for $100...lol.

recommend you edit the post so no one reads it, misses this post, and gets confused.

while i'm here (and have a reason to post on this thread) thanks to the devs, an everyone working on this. 'god speed'

Also, I wouldn't recommend moving APPS or SYSTEM MEMORY to SD because, your phone is only as fast as your SD and unusable without it.

With mostly the same interface hardware, and the same cdma 850/1900 antenna, and literally 100% uninhibited and open access to PST and system settings, I fail to understand how this would be impossible.

My conversations with other technicians seem think that the only reason why not would only be related to Verizon policies, and not each phone's ability to use each other's network.

They can both use Cricket, and other networks on the same wavelength. You're saying that there's no way that you could trick Verizon into letting it on the network?

verizon and sprint usually dont allow the activation of phones branded by other carriers. even though the are the same technology(CDMA). It would be worth a shot to call Verizon and ask if they allow it. Do let me know the outcome if you do call. :)

question of the day.. with root access can you responsibly change the IMEI number??? to one of a phone that would work on the opposing network?

I know this is possibly with the HTC vogue running windows mobile with android running from that; although it uses ESN number, and I believe once it is changed it is hard written to the radio firmware. Perhaps the software hasn't been leaked yet to let us do that.

Does qpst work with the eris/desire/hero or any android phone?

Sprint really doesn't have any nice phones, in my opinion. The Hero looks so bland and reminds me of the N1.

scary to say but...verizon looks like they are the ones with...this is going to be hard to say...the best phones!
well, until t-mobile gets the hd2.
then it will have two of the most powerful phones out!

Right, but it's running WinMo which is bland and like buying a Lexus for performance. Seems like it's strictly for business people. The phone itself may be nice and powerful, but running WinMo is gonna make it suck.

well, as a long time winmo guy...its also hard to say I AGREE! :)
though..i would do anything for that animated wallpaper!
its better than the nexus one wallpaper at current.

I don't supposed there's any way to put Android on the HD2, is there? I wish phones were more like the computers they try to be sometimes. Switching OSs should not be this hard or just straight up impossible.

I dont see why you couldnt put Android on the HD. I had a htc Vogue and was running the Linux on it and it worked well. I ran if from the boot up not the sd card like some do.

Any updates on root? LOL. Haven't heard from the devs in a while. I'm guessing they are busy at work. My bones are tingling in excitement for this root!

This is my first smartphone, and I've learned a lot reading through the forum. I've read through some of the info on rooting, and I think I understand a lot of the pros and cons. I know if I root I can go back to factory settings if necessary. I can't wait for 2.x to become available for the eris, and I understand there will be 2.1 roms. If I don't root before the OTA comes out, will I still be able to after the update is installed?

I would just like to know more about updating after rooting in general... someone said earlier that you can't update after you root at all. If that's true then is the only way to install custom roms?... I'm new to this so please go easy on me.

I'm really just trying to achieve a couple of things
Delete apps like footprints
Overclock
And increase the mtu
So is rooting going to be the way to go? I found an app to increase mtu but it says you have to be a roots user.
