Root Dead thread.

Yeah...I've definitely learned patience. I'm optimistic because I have a feeling that with a momentum shift of breaking through the code, we'll be seeing the 2nd 50% go by faster than the first. There's a factor that they now have a promising exploit and now all concentrate on that one instead of everyone trying different ones.
 
We can only hope it works that way. The kernel being released so late and there not being as many exploits as expected might mean HTC spent the past three months making it almost impossible to crack.

You gotta admit, it does sound a bit fishy.

Plus, why would the Eris be more secure than, say, the Nexus One or the Droid? Or even the G1? There's more to it than we think or have said in this thread.
 
Smacky...I promise you that there isn't just one exploit but many of them. Microsoft releases at least a few every single "Super Tuesday" and others do the same. The only reason that this is taking longer is that you have a handful of hackers rather than many, many teams of them (not to mention individuals) like with windows. It's happening man...I don't care how long they kept the kernel.
 
Any more intelligent than I please correct me if I am wrong. From my limited understanding in Linux, it is a highly customizable operating system. I think the nexus one was rooted so quickly because Google's primary concern is the basic functionality, performance, and features of android. They probably focused very little on protecting against exploits to allow base android to be customizable for difference phone manufacturers. The Motorola Droid had very little customization from Motorola since Google had a very heavy influence in the product and wanted to mirror base android as much as possible. HTC, on the other hand, can do whatever they want with android since Google is rather hands off with the manufacturers (except for the nexus one, but that is a different story). Because of this customization performed by HTC, I would bet they lock many of the settings and patch exploits where possible to protect their product (Sense in this case). Just my two cents.

Actually we now have what we believe to be 2 working exploits...both completly seperate from eachother :)
I gotta be out for the night so I will let ya guys know how its going soon.

This is probably the biggest Eris related news since they announced we were going to be getting 2.1 by the end of the 1st quarter. I think acidbath just made most of use jump up and down with this update. We all love our Eris, what would be a better valentine day gift the ROOT!

Root will make OTA completely irrelevant for me. Cooks are so gifted and I would swear that the carrier and make devs must download the ROM's for ideas. I come from a windows phone but I saw some awesome ROM's in that arena. Made the stock ROM look like a joke.
 
yeah im still new to android stuff but a quick learner, cant u just push updates (roms) though from google or are roms completely different?

I'm sorry if I worded it wrong. This being my first smart phone and will be first rooted, I've been trying to follow closely to all the info that's been given. But isn't the HTC update include multi touch? Idk if its confirmed but will the Rom (s) include that? But I cant thank the dens enough, I love full access.

look back earlier in the thread. Someone posted that as soon as some progress was made on Root they were gonna release the Kernel. less then 24 hours later after an update by Acidbath, they released the source code

Alright Android Fans. HTC's US headquarters is in Bellevue, Washington. I'm starting up two teams for this.

Team A codenamed Barefoot Kittyhawk will act as civilians who will walk into HQ and ask for a tour. On tour they will snap photos and "blueprint" the fastest route to the R&D lab.

Team B codenamed Sugarfoot Clawhammer will then use the blueprints and pictures to break into HQ and make a direct line to R&D. After retrieving proper ERIS exploits we will begin search for HTC devices,

Dragon, Dream, Hero and Passion, Bahamas, DesireC, Espresso, Halo, HeroCT, HeroC, Huangshan, Incredible,, Liberty, Memphis, Paradise, PassionC, Sapphire, Scorpion and Supersonic
