Its awesome devs!! A bit bummed cause I'm at 2.1 but I have absolute confidence that you guys will figure that out soon. Thanks again. Cant wait for the sleek, fat trimmed, no fluff, roms to start coming out.

Downloaded the Mirc and now I can't find the server. Not sure if I am doing this right? I am new to this.

Do you mean that you can't find the server in the list on mIRC? If so, you may have to type the server in, but I am not sure where (I am using XChat).

The channel (#roottheeris) that is in your quoted text isn't used anymore, though. They use #droideris for general chat, #root was created last night for the devs to discuss root, and #dev for their development efforts.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning,

I bring you this morning Root with your coffee and eggs and whatever else it is that you have for breakfast.

For complete instructions please go to
How To Root Your HTC Eris

Enjoy if you have any questions or need help please come talk to us in the IRC channel #ErisRootHelp

And have a great day

And of course thanks go out to all of our developers on irc.thefuzz4.net/irc.wastate.net for their time and dedication. 2.1 users don't feel like we've forgotten about you because I am in that boat right now with you. We are working very hard to get us all on the same root page so just hang in there were making headway.

Thanks to all the folks who worked so hard on this!
I wasn't sure if it was actually going to happen for the Eris based on the flame wars over at xda. Good job overcoming adversity guys! You rock!:)

Thank you, gentlemen (and ladies). Looking forward to seeing what new possibilities are now open to us.

Someone on the XDA forum mentioned that this build was buggy, and I haven't seen anyone else confirm or deny that yet...any word?

There is some buggyness with it. Some report it more stable than the leak. Some apps won't install it's just hit and miss. It really boils down to this.
Do you need root like right now?
or
Can you wait till we cook up a rom and then root and load the rom?
It's up to you.

Thanks. I was planning to wait a few days anyway (never a bad idea to let the dust settle on new developments like this before jumping in), but I was curious as to whether that poster was experiencing an isolated incident.

For those that have updated to 2.1 has battery life been addressed or is it about the same.

Right now I get maybe 7-10 hours before having to recharge the battery and I turn WIFI and GPS off most of the day.

Mine seems to be about the same as before. I can get all day out of it pretty easily with light use, but if I'm really into it (surfing, playing games, etc) I can burn it down pretty quickly.

DAMN! Wish I would hadn't upgrade to leaked 2.1 already! Let's go devs figuring out a rollback/compatibility!

Thought I'd give ya'll an update since I decided to get involved in the root effort:

http://flashrecovery.net/evil/VIDEO0006.3gp

Incase you don't know what you're looking at, that's the 2.1 leak running root. :)

Stay tuned.

(don't get too excited those of you already running the 2.1 leak though, unfortunately this isn't for ya'll)

Ok those of you with a rooted eris.

It's time to get a better rom on there for right now
Eris Root Roms
Has the how to for loading the Amon Ra rom onto the phone. This will get us a little more stability and what not until we get our custom rom completed.

Oh god, just took the plunge into root. I also downloaded "teach yourself linux in 24 hours", 400 fun pages of pdf, just so I can try to follow the progress of what you guys are doing for everyone.

Great work, and thanks for sharing the fruits of your labor!

The Amon Ra does have some issues with it. The primary one being a wifi issue preventing you from connecting to a network. The devs are working to fix that issue, and it should be good to go soon.

Navigation was fixed in the rom.

so can i update to the Official 2.1 when it comes out since i have 2.1 unofficial leak, and still be rooted with the Official 2.1 when 2.1 root comes out. or no?

A root for the official 2.1 will have to be found first and then you can root. Otherwise, no one can root except for those who have 1.5.

The status on 2.1 leak is still kind of at square one. People are looking for exploits but nothing's been found, and no way to revert to 1.5 has been found.

The status on the 2.1 leak rooted rom update from the original 2.1 root rom is still being worked on. Toolbox isn't working, which is causing wifi to not work (we think). So still in progress. Might be done later today, but might not, we're having issues getting it working.

Jcase did post a guide on reverting back to 1.5 over at XDA. You can give it a shot if you'd like:

Downgrading made easy, by jcase.

Step 1
put phone on hard surface.

Step 2
smash with big rock.

Step 3
Go to http://www.ebay.com

Step 4
Buy slightly used 1.5 eris.

Step 5
clean up parts from step 2.

Step 6
Enjoy root.
